We all know the cartoony motion/look of W@W, I personally couldn't take it seriously.
Heres some info about the "Full Performance Capture" technology used in Black Ops.

Most people have seen the movie "Avatar", and know how amazing the animations and visuals are in the movie. Treyarch is using the same technology Avatar used in Black Ops, which involves recording body motion, voice and facial expressions all in the one cut.

This is done by having the actors placed in the middle of a stage, wearing a full body suit which have reflectors placed on keypoints of the suit, such as elbows, knees, hands/fingers etc, with a huge amount of reflectors on the face. These reflectors give a constant feedback to over 100 cameras placed around the border of the room aimed directly at the actor. This information gives a full stream on the actors movement, and can be replicated on a computer as they were an actor in a non-animated movie.

You must login or register to view this content.

Software technology has been used on the computers to track each reflectors feedback directly from the actor, which then constructs an exact image on the computer. The technology then "joins the dots" and emulates the actual body between the dots. This emulation can then be changed however the animators see fit, (adding a SOG standard camoflauge as clothing etc). This technology can also replicate movements such as the actor climbing up faces, hopping into a tank etc, and is done by having a model on the stage, in which the actor would behave as they would in a normal movie.

Using this technology in Black Ops is a major leap from the animation used in W@W, which was like watching Looney Toons. This is very obvious if you have seen any of the trailers/vids for Black Ops.

I've linked a video on behind the scenes of Avatar using this technology.

Can you please link me? I searched and I couldn't find any posts specifically on this topic. It has been mentioned along with other topics a few times, but no depth explained.
