(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); What's in store for Call of Duty?

As some of you may know, the two owners of Infinity Ward were laid off recently by Activision. So this leads to the question: what will become of Call of Duty?

Activision has announced that the next COD will be released late 2011, but it's not going to be made solely by Treyarch either. Sledgehammer Games has decided to step up to the challenge. Proof can be found here: You must login or register to view this content.. They will be joining Treyarch and the rest of the Infinity Ward team. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty excited to see how a company I have never heard of will compare to past Call of Duty's.

So what about the ex-owners of Infinity Ward? They have gone and created a new company-Respawn Entertainment. They have managed to sign a deal with EA Games on their first day. They are starting strong with "seven million capital" from EA reports the LA Times. The two former Infinity Ward owners, Jason West and Vince Zampella, are not alone. Joining them will be lead designer Todd Alderman and lead software engineer Francesco Gigliotti from Infinity Ward. They will most likely be competing with Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games, as they have decided to continue making FPS games.

Law suits are being thrown back and forth between Activision and West and Zampella, so expect some more news on this in the upcoming months.

I am very much enjoying the current Call of Duty. But with Infinity Ward out of the picture, or so it seems, wouldn't you wonder what was going to happen with the next Call of Duty?

Hm, i heard recent news that foreshadowed sledgehammer to start making the next cod. Never heard of sledgehammer (well i have heard of them just never seen their games), but i hope it will be good and i am thinking it will be in nom. Just thinking it will be because of the news i heard a little bit ago when people were trying to find out the next cod.

All i got was this :

Activision COO Thomas Tippl has said that the upcoming Call of Duty title from upstart Sledgehammer Games will “broaden the audience”.Speaking with the LA Times, Tippl said the studio – headed by ex-Visceral heads Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey – will bring an “innovative take” on the series.He also reiterated, despite the firings of ex-studio bosses Vince Zampella and Jason West nearly two months ago, what Activision had previously said, by stating that Infinity Ward remains “central” to the Call of Duty franchise.“Today, we have three studios working on Call of Duty,” said Tippl. “We have Infinity Ward, which made Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Then we have Treyarch, which will be releasing a Call of Duty game in the fall of 2010. Treyarch also developed Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty 3.“And, most recently, we’ve added Sledgehammer in the Bay Area. We haven’t yet announced the content of their game, but it’s going to be an innovative take that will further broaden the audience for Call of Duty.”Not much has actually been said of the Sledgehammer CoD since its announcement in March other than it will be in the action-adventure genre, suggesting it may move away as a first-person shooter.

I was wrong in assuming Infinity Ward would not be a part of this, then. And there are many rumors flying around.

NOFEAR
No Fear, No Mercy
I'm sure anybody in charge of creating a game in such a popular series will do their best on that game. Let's just hope their best is good enough.
