An Introduction
Mornin' all, in this thread I will try and show you how to raise your K/D (Kill to Death ratio) by improving your strategies and tacties whilst playing online whilst giving you some custom classes to use/think about.
First off, i'll tell you a few things about myself. I wouldn't really call myself a 'noticed' member of the NextGenUpdate community, I post threads, comment, but nothing more than that. I play on is the PS3 and i've been playing the Call Of Duty series since Cod4. My K/D on Black Ops is currently 2.33, and you may say to me, "You're not an expert, why would you know what to do?" and other phrases along those lines. My reply is simply, I'm not a pro, but these are tips and classes which i've picked up over the years, they won't make you better instantly, but with practice they will help.
Weapons
Ok, let's start off with the Weapons, this, without doubt is the most important thing in the game, without a weapon you're dead. One thing which is different from the other COD series are the maps. They're a lot more built up, ranging from objects to hide behind to buildings. We're going to want to pick a gun which has a significant amount of manoeuvrability but which has a decent amount of firepower. In my opinion the guns that you are going to want to look at are:
- AK-47u - Very good movement wise, good rate of fire, but recoil varies (can be countered by using the grip attachment).
- Galil - Very 'solid' gun, high power. It has a high rate of fire for an assault gun, but this can be countered by using the extended mags.
- Famas - A massive improvement from Modern Warfare 2, it's now fully auto, and with the RDS, can be very effective.
- Commando - My favourite gun, high power, not much recoil, the reloading is a bit strange and takes a while but this can be countered by using dual mags and/or SOH.
- AK-47 - High power, but a lot of recoil, (I suggest using this gun is small bursts to lower the recoil).
The list of guns, are my favourite so far, please don't flame, it's in my opinion and I haven't used all of the guns to a degreed vary yet!
Secondary Weapons
I don't exactly have a lot to say in this section. My tips for you would be, don't always rely on your secondary, try to switch it for a primary weapon as soon as you can. Most of the pistols are rubbish. DON'T USE THE SPECIALS. They are a huge risk, and luck must be on your side. I would say use either:
- CZ75 with the fully automatic attachment.
Attachments
Without a doubt, I have a few things to say when it comes to the attachments of your weapon. The most important of all, has to be the surpressor. Many people rely of the radar and a single red 'blip' can send people coming to investigate. I would say that using a silencer should be at the top of your list in attachements. If you're not worried about showing up on the minimap and you're looking for other effective attachments, I recommend using either the dual mags or extended mags. I say this because, if let's say you run into a room full of 3 people and your accuracy isn't great, having more bullets to fire at them without reloading is always a great thing!
- AK-47u with rapid fire and grip.
- Galil with extended mags.
Perks
As stopping power was removed in Black Ops, it gives us more chance to try out the different perks given to us. In this thread, I am looking at how you can improve your K/D meaning we have to die less. A simple way for this to happen is to use the 'Ghost' perk. It leaves you off of the radar when a UAV is called in. 'Ghost pro' removes the red triangle away from you when an enemy calls in a chopper gunner and stops killstreaks from killing you. One other way is to use 'Flak Jacket', this reduces explosive power which can stop you from dying if faced against a claymore. 'Hardline', this makes killstreaks takes 1 less kill to gain, this will improve your kills...hopefully.
Slot 2 will have to go to either 'Warlord' - so that you can have more than 1 attachment, this can be VERY useful. Not everybody likes 'Steady Aim' but it can be VERY useful is you find yourself running into an enemy and not finding the time to zoom in. By using 'Steady Aim', firing from the hip is more accurate and the bullets don't tend to be so wild. Sleight Of Hand, can be increadibly useful at times, especially if you need to quickly spray and reload.
For me I only use 'Marathon' for slot 3, that or 'Ninja', Using 'Marathon' using me more time to sprint, instead of slowly lolling around. 'Ninja' is a very useful perk, as it cuts of the sneaky people who have spent money on getting a good headset.
- AK-47u with rapid fire and grip, S1 - Flak Jacket, S2 - Warlord, S3 - Marathon. Sec. M1911 ext. mags.
- Galil with extended mags, S1 - Ghost, S2 - Sleight Of Hand, S3 - Marathon. M1911 ext. mags.
- Famas with silencer, S1 - Ghost, S2 - Steady Aim, S3 - Ninja. Sec. CZ75 silencer.
- Commando with dual mags, S1 - Flak Jacket, S2 - Steady Aim, S3 - Marathon. M1911 ext. mags.
- AK-47 with silencer, S1 - Ghost, S2 - Hardline, S3 - Marathon. Sec. CZ75 silencer.
Equipment
Like Modern Warfare 2, it is almost essential to use the claymore. You can put it in a doorway KNOWING that you'll kill someone without 'Flak Jacket'. Even it doesn't kill them, it will most likely hurt them and this explosive can serve you by telling you that someone is close by.
Lethal
With the choice of using a, frag, semtex and tomahawk I would definately use the semtex. It has reasonable firepower along with a short fuse.
Tactical
My favourite tactical equipment have to be the nova gas along with the decoy. The nova gas disorientates the foe along with damaging them. The decoy can act as a ...decoy and get you out of a tough situation as a lot of people depend on the minimap.
Killstreaks
Here are a few killstreaks that I use.
#3 - UAV, #8 - Blackbird and #11 - Dogs
#5 - Napalm strike, #6 - Mortar strike and #9 - Chopper gunner.
Top Tips
My top tips to sum of this thread would be...
1. Use silencers, when you fire you don't get put on the minimap!
2. Anylysis the situation, don't take this seriously and spend 5 minutes looking at a building. But instead if there is a red 'blip' the likelyhood is that there'll be someone in that building.
3. Don't rush, if you want to build up a killstreak, rushing the enemy will always get you a few kills, but you'll end up being killed by a camper.
4. Use your equipment. If you suspect that there is somebody in a building use your equipment, throw your nova gas as well as your semtex.
5. Find the sensitivity that suits you, play a few games trying out different sensitivities, often higher ones help.
6. Try a different controller setting. By changing to the 'tactical' setting, crouch and knife change positions, this can lead to you dropshotting. This tactic can often lead to an enemy's line of fire being put off in a 1v1.
7. If you find yourself suddenly playing badly, try having a break. Get some mates together and play football. Try to give your eyes a rest.
8. Practice, practice and practice. The better people at this game, have propably played FPS games for years. This is the only tip which I have that covers for everybody.
9. Stick to the shadows, don't run out like a lunatic down the most obvious route, stick to the corners of the map and try and flank the enemy. Becareful, other people try the tactic as well.
10. Have fun. Yes it is said hundreds of times, cliche after cliche. Don't kid yourself, try and play the gamemodes which you enjoy as well as gamemodes which rack up lots of kills.
If you have any questions for me, please feel free to PM me! This guide was written by Window Pain on NextGenUpdate, if you want to add any of your tips, please quote me and say!

AK74u Grip
Stun & Frag
Flak Jacket
Sleight of Hand - Pro
Marathon
Galil - Dual Mag
Stun & Frag
Flak Jacket
Sleight of Hand - Pro
Ninja
The 74u is very good for smaller maps, It has a great firerate and exceptionally good power. I play Headquaters and this gun is very helpful.
The Galil is best for the slightly bigger maps. I find it good for going around the edges and killing them. It can be good for close quarters if you can get your shots on target
Maybe you could add that the game is not just about getting kills, Even though I play the objective I get more kills than my team who don't mainly because the other team go for the objective too.

Since killstreaks don't stack up, you should use UAV/Blackbird if you want to get Attack Dogs or Chopper Gunner or Gunship. Of course, you could always put a napalm or mortar (but the mortar sucks in my opinion) in there to get out of a sticky situation.

I use CP, Chopper Gunner, and Gunship.
My K/D is currently at 1.80/
Play Domination too, as all other object modes have cover behind the objective.

ice guide, very close to how I actually play. I started off with a 1.4 KD ratio (got the game a few days late, didn't know the maps and whatnot), but it has been rising steadily, hopefully hitting 2.0 today or tomorrow (1.96 now I think).
I think the one difference in my gameplay and yours is that I rush, a lot. The feeling you get when you run around the map to get behind the team, and get a triple kill because of 3 campers is . That being said, you also may die a little more often, hence the change is killstreaks. I use Spy Plane/Counter Spy Plane/ Care Package. I am usually on the winning side, as with Spy Planes/Counter Spy planes frequently, my team can acquire kills more easily. Usually I try to stack up 2 or 3 care packages, switch to my hardline pro class, and hope I get lucky. Here is what I usually run to actually get these care packages.
Primary : AK47 w/Supressor
Secondary : Dual Revolvers (the name escapes me right now, but it is the only revolver available I think) A Launcher may also be used, if you want to take down ememy air support to help out your team)
Perk 1 : Ghost Pro ; Such a useful perk. No Spy Planes to track you down, no pesky choppers killing you, Chopper Gunners and Gunships don't even have you with the pretty red box. This perk allows you to move around, without being noticed.
Perk 2 : Sleight of Hand Pro ; This perk has saved my butt many a times, the extra second it saves you can be the difference between life and death. The pro add on (Faster ADS) is also quite nice, I am not looking forward to prestiging and not having it for a few levels. This is also one of the reasons you can use a launcher as a secondary, as you could probably reload in the time It would take you to switch to a pistol.
Perk 3 : Hacker Pro ; This is the one perk I am torn about. Hacker pro is very useful for finding campers and avoiding their claymores, as well as stealing the occasional Sam Turret or Care Package. The other perk I would use is Marathon, but I just don't think it is worth it without the pro version. The only problem I have with getting pro is the CTF caps, I don't play CTF that often, hence not having that many caps X_x. Marathon pro is amazing in conjunction with ghost, you are fast AND stealthy. For those who have not acquired marathon pro yet, I would say Hacker Pro would be a solid 2nd choice.
Lethal : Semtex or Frag, Tomahawks are more for showing off, and one of these grenades could have probably gotten you that kill anyways.
Tactical : Flash or Concussion grenades , haven't had much experience with much else >.>
Equipment : Personally, I have started using tactical insertion, and it has been working out well for me. I've had quite a few instances, where I die, I respawn near my death, and get a payback on the fool who killed me. Claymores work as well, you may get a random kill while running around. Motion trackers and camera may also work, but I haven't tried them out rushing, so I don't know how good you may help.
Just my 2 cents, getting a better KD doesn't always mean getting high killstreaks

Very nice guide, and I would like to add in my 2 cents.
I've been messing around with different setups and such trying to find the right thing that fits me. Well I found a class that I just own peoples with.
* FN FAL w/ Extended Mags (any attachment really), S1 Hardline, S2 Hardened, S3 Marathon or Hacker. Sec. CZ75 w/ auto.
I use hardened b/c I have hardened PRO, which allows me to stay on target even if I'm getting hit.
I love this set-up b/c I have a fast trigger finger (no modded controller ). I also use the UAV, Blackbird, Dogs killstreaks like mentioned. I get Dogs almost every game now!
Hope you guys try this out and enjoy it as much as I do!

-Reflex Sight is better than Red Dot, because on ALL guns, Reflex Sight reduces the recoil, sometimes very significantly (Namely on the AUG).
-Hacker Pro is quite useful if they like to use Claymores, Sentry Guns etc. ESPECIALLY in Search and Destroy
-The Crossbow is OKAY as a secondary IF you can aim it
-The G11 takes SOME skill, but once you get used to it, it becomes very good.
-The M1911 is better than the CZ75 I.M.O because the CZ75 takes an entire mag to kill, where as the M1911 is 3 shots if placed accurately in the head, neck or high chest area.
-The FAMAS is better WITHOUT silencer, I've found the Commando to be the best gun when silenced.
