Here is a very detailed guide on how to use theater mode. Please note that this is not my guide and I just posted this to help out the users that need help
[multipage=Theater Mode]Theatre mode is a new addition to the call of duty series, allowing players to view and record clips from multiplayer games. While the tool may look simple, it can become quite confusing at points as I have found when messing around with it in the last few days. I've seen quite a few people asking questions about it, so I thought it would be useful to have a thread with the information they need.
[multipage=How to get started]
Once you've had a multiplayer game, head back to the main multiplayer menu. Under Xbox Live, select theatre mode then find the film you want from the recent games list.
When it has loaded (be patient, this sometimes takes a while), select start film to begin.
[multipage=The Theater Menu]
As soon as you start the film, you will notice the black menu on the bottom of the screen. This helps you control everything in the theatre mode, so pay attention to what it tells you.
Speed/position- To fast forward gameplay, hold down RT and LT if you want to go back. You can't skip forward until you've watched it through once. To slowly increase the speed of the film, hold lightly down on RT. The lighter you press down, the slower the speed will go. It can be recorded when in this state.
Remove the bar- are the controls getting in the way of whatever you're trying to view? Press down on LS to toggle it on and off
HUD- You can remove the HUD (heads-up display) by pressing B. This will remove your map, gun info etc. that you'd normally see when playing.
The green/red lines- These show deaths (red) and kills (green). Very useful if you want to find the point where you got an awesome triple kill
Change the camera- pressing Y once will change the camera from 1st person to 3rd. In this mode you can move around the player you're viewing to make sure you don't lose them. Pressing Y once more will turn on free camera. You can fly anywhere you want in this mode and be free! Pressing Y again will return you to 1st person.
Change the player- press LB and RB to change between different players in the game.
[multipage=Screenshots and recording]
Face it, the main reason you visit theatre mode is to take a sweet screenshot or a amazing clip to brag to your friends. This is the most confusing bit, so bear with me.
Screenshots- OK, easy bit first. To take a screenshot HOLD down the X button and release it once the screen starts scanning in black and white. Once it's finished, you can name it, tag it and save it to your fileshare. If you have a call of duty account on
You must login or register to view this content., you can view and save screenshots to your computer.
Clips
Confusing time! I'll start by explaining some terms
Segment- This is a single recording in black ops and can be up to 30 seconds long. Say you record yourself killing two enemies with a RC-XD, this is a segment.
Clip- This is a group of segments put together. Imagine in a montage, you have several clips showing different kills. Using several segments from one game, you can make a clip
Film- The unedited movie of your game. Say you upload a game of Ground war to your fileshare, this is a film
[multipage=How to record a clip]
Once you have recorded a segment, give it a name and save it. You can preview it or discard it if you don't like it. If you are planning to record a montage using several clips from the same game, you can save these too and change their position in manage segments under the start menu. You can have up to 10 segments and each can transition into each other in different ways if you press right or left on the D-pad (fade or cut)
When you're done with the segments you want, in the order you want, press start and upload clip. Name + save in fileshare!
[multipage=I want it on my youtube!]
Alright, alright. End the film and select the clip you just recorded. Click on render clip. Wait until it's played through and then it will upload (this may also take some time)
IMPORTANT: The clip must be no longer than 30 seconds or it won't allow you to render it! Also, you must have a black ops online account with your youtube linked.
The rendering process basically allows you upload 1 of your clips to the black ops site. However, you can upload as many as you want to youtube, so it's all good. The clip is put on youtube and also on the black ops site.
As I said, the Black Ops site only allows you to keep one rendered clip on the website itself. When you try to upload a second, it will warn you that it is about to remove the current video. This only replaces the video on the website, not the one on youtube.
Link youtube account to COD Site and it will upload directly to youtube and will appear in less then 5 minutes.
