How to open your NAT for Black Ops (XBOX ONLY)
Are you have connection issues in a online mulitplayer play? Your NAT
(network address translation) maybe set to strict/moderate.
Things you Need
- Your router model
- Your XBOX IP address (If port forwarding doesn't work)
Step 1 - How to find your Xbox IP address
You have to go to the XBOX Live Dashboard. Then go to
My Xbox > System Settings > Network Settings.
After you are at network settings, you have to select your wireless (or wired) network.
Next, you'll see a screen to test your XBOX Live connection, select Configure Network and under Basic Settings, you'll see
"IP Settings",
"IP Address",
"Subnet Mask", and
"Gateway". The number next to your IP address is your XBOX IP address.
Step 2 - Port forwarding
Now, you need to find your router's IP address. If your on a PC, go to
Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig
You'll see a list of numbers for
IPv4 address,
Subnet mask, and
Default Gateway. The number next to Default Gateway is your router's IP address.
Copy that number and paste into your web browser. Click "Enter".
You'll see a login screen. For username enter "admin" and for password put "admin".
(
NOTE: if you are using a Linksys router and the login details are not correct, You must login or register to view this content..)
You should see a screen like this:
You must login or register to view this content.
Click "
Applications & Gaming" on the top navigation bar. Then click "
Port Range Forward". You should see a list called
Port Range.
Now the easy part. XBOX Live uses ports
87-89 (UDP), and 3073-3075 (Both UDP and TCP). For application, put "
Xboxlive" or "
Blackops". If you need to configure it later, it's easier to assign each port a name. Then, for start, put "
87" and then for end, put "
89". From the dropdown box, select UDP and put your XBOX IP address you got before in for "
IP Address", then click enable.
Repeat that step for ports
3073-3075. However, for protocol, you can select "Both".
(
NOTE: XBOX Live also uses ports 88 (UDP and TCP), 2074 (UDP and TCP), port 3074 (UDP and TCP).)
*EXTRA STEP* Step 3 - DMZ your XBOX
If port forwarding doesn't work, you can put your XBOX in the DMZ of your router. On "
Applications & Gaming", click "
DMZ". Click "Enable" and put your XBOX IP address in.
(NOTE: Using the DMZ exposes ALL of your ports to the internet.)
That's it! You can now play XBOX Live with no problems!
If you still have trouble, please just reply to this thread and we'll try to help you out.
