Dr. Richtofen, known sometimes as The Butcher to his victims as they scream in agony moments before he snuffs out their light. Throughout his career, Richtofen has always been at the base line of torture and information extraction research. Before the war he was a back alley plastic surgeon, who created an army of monstrous affluent Weimar socialites that would follow him around and laugh at every joke the genius doctor made. This all fell apart when the republic fell and the Nazi party took control. To Richtofen, their values were too moral, too liberal for his liking. He joined the army so he could satisfy his need to watch people die, slowly.

An incurable sociopath, he sees no moral distinction between natural death and murder. The victim is the victim, regardless of how their demise manifests itself.

He has a collection of stuffed animals, most of them posed in positions of terror at the instant of their death.

Edward Richtofen worked with Doctor Maxis on various experiments at Der Riese. Maxis was testing zombies for a government project christened "Der Riese". He would send humans through teleporters, but they would always appear at the mainframe as zombies. Maxis attempted to control them, but they would always try to kill him, resulting in their deaths.

According to Der Riese. Richtofen is an undercover agent of the illuminati sent to Der Riese to accompany Dr. Maxis.

According to the Central Intelligence Agency Data System, Richtofen witnessed tests run on Tank Dempsey, Takeo Masaki and Nikolai Belinski. Doctor Maxis recorded that the three have shown "unique side effects" to the experiments. Maxis records that their baseline psyche "remains intact", but all "specific memories" are lost.

One day, Richtofen and Maxis were testing the effects of a teleporter on Samantha's dog Fluffy. The dog was teleported, but reappeared at the Mainframe as a Hellhound. When Samantha entered the room questioning Maxis about the dog, Richtofen left the room. He then locked Maxis and Samantha in the room with the Hellhound, which killed them. Richtofen then released the zombies on Der Riese.

Richtofen makes his first appearance in Shi No Numa, which also marks the first appearance of Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski and Takeo Masaki. They escape the Imperial Zombies and move to Der Riese, fighting off Nazi Zombies.

Richtofen and the others are revealed to have survived the events of Der Riese. They use a teleporter, which unknowingly teleports them into the Cold War era. They arrive at Kino Der Toten. Richtofen leaves a message which can be heard when the player loads the map on solo:

"(static) Entry 741021! Perhaps the station will hold the key to the real goals of group 935. I still do not trust my 'unconventional' allies, but they are of great use to me. But, I digress. Who would have thought the MDT was capable of time travel? How many stations does this group have? Where did that little girl disappear to? Only time will tell what new questions awaits us in this...THEATER OF THE DAMNED! (static)"*

Was sent to Der Riese (by Illuminati) to accompany Dr. L. Maxis

Created Wunderwaffe DG-2 with Element 115.

Helped Dr. Maxis on the*
discovery of knowing how to use 115 to reanimate the dead.

Failed to control the 115 Dead, created Gas zombies and normal zombies.

Betrayed Maxis and Samantha (Maxis's daughter), by locking them in a room to be mauled by Hell Hound Fluffy.

Went to Shi No Numa to*
experiment on recon agents Nikolai, Tank and Takeo.

Managed to wipe out present memories of them.

Failed to contain 115 Living Dead,
Headed to Der Riese with the 3, failed but they escaped and time travelled with the MDT to a Nazi Cinema.

Found out that Maxis created a weapon called the Thundergun.

Also finds out Samantha is dead but still walks the earth and knows Samantha has the power to control hounds and zombies.

(Theory)
Samantha's ghost may not be really a ghost, according to the radio in Der Riese, during the time the father and daughter were attacked, you could here 2 distinct teleporter sound, 1 from the hound and 1 for teleportation. Maxis and Samantha may have escaped but Samantha being too young could not handle the power of 115 thus disintegrating her.*
But thanks to the 115's reanimating properties, Samantha lived but not as a human but a paranormal part of 115. (115 shows itself with electricity so if you see some ghost movies the ghost transport themselves with a ball of electricity, makes sense yes it does)

Samantha is now a paranormal force toying with the 4 for revenge.
The MDT may have teleported the zombies to the Pentagon.
