M.A.D.=Mutually Assured Destruction. An unspoken agreement between the Super-Powers during the Cold War: If one Super Power Nation launched a Nuke at its enemy, there was an assurance that many nukes would be sent in return by the opposing nations; (a.k.a., the end of the world)...Military strategists from each of the Super Power nations spent the entire duration of the Cold War trying to figure out how they could successfully launch a pre-emptive strike while minimizing casualties on its own soil.


It never happened because M.A.D. was exactly as stated above...an assurance. Most of us reading this would not be here if one of those f/ing idiots had given it a try.
