Well is the upgraded MP40 better than the upgraded Ray Gun?
If it is, then yes, it wouldn't make any sense for people to use the Ray Gun over the MP40 if the MP40 is better.
Unless they want more points. That's the only reason I can think of.

I'm guessing you've never been past round 30. At round 40 it takes 13 shots from a raygun to kill a zombie. 130 + 60=190 points a zombie, with no way to replenish ammo. Mp40 allows at least 4000 points per ammo purchase, with ammo costing 500 points. Points are everything in late rounds when zombies can't be killed with guns, you HAVE to use traps

the mp40 is a points machine untill you upgrade it. when you upgrade it, it becomes an afterburner which has pretty much the exact same amount of ammo with twice the clip and lots more damage. this is great except that it runs out of ammo pretty fast and you dont make 4500 points by using all of the ammo for it, which is how much it cost to buy upgraded ammo for it. so basically it kills zombies fast but the ammo will cost you money. the ray gun has great damage and a pretty decent amount of ammo. i prefer anything that shoots actual bullets to the ray gun on early rounds like up to maybe 20 or so because on early rounds you are just trying to get points to pay for things in the later rounds. then when you get to about 20+ you are just trying to survive so you want guns that kill fast such as the ray gun

Exactly. That's why you don't upgrade it. But again, you don't kill zombies with guns in later rounds
