Is it a thing for some of the more popular NGU'ers to groan random threads without replying to it or giving a reason? (KANE, Melo, and DiJiTaL *cough*) Pretty stupid.

PICTURES ARE UP! =D!
NOTE: This doesn't work for everyone, most people though, It works for my friend but not me, because of my fail internet.

Even if it fails to open your NAT, it still helps your connection, and it also WILL NOT hurt your internet in anyway.[/i][/b]

Improving Black Ops Connection

IMPORTANT: This is tested on a linksys router + PS3, it works on other routers and XBOXs too, but I don't have one to test it but the sequence is quite similar

What some of the words in here mean

DMZ - This is a feature where you type in a IP address, and it will open most of your ports, helping connection between PS3s/XBOXs

Port Forwarding - Opening a specific port to a certain IP Address through protocols and ports that are defined by the user

UPnP - Universal Plug n Play, overall game connection improver

*These are my personal explanations, not a dictionary explanation.

Please comment and give feedback, I seriously like feedback, good or bad.

[multipage=Finding Router IP]

Finding your router IP

Step 1a: If on Windows Vista/7 go to Start>Search bar>Type 'cmd'>Hit enter
You must login or register to view this content.

Step 1b: If on Windows XP go to Start>Run>Type 'cmd'>Hit enter
Don't got XP, no image available

Step 2: If a black box loads up, good, type in 'ipconfig'
Use picture below for this step also, also please now I blocked out my main IP Addresses for security purposes

Step 3: If a list of IP addresses load up, find the one called 'Awesome faceefault Gateway' and write it in a notepad
You must login or register to view this content.

[multipage=Opening Ports]

Opening Ports

Step 4: Open up your browser and put that ip address in.

Step 5: It might/should ask for a user/password, if so, Try the following comboes

User/Pass Comboes
user: -none- pass: admin
user: admin pass: admin
user: root pass: admin

If none work, ask your parents for the user/pass and tell them its to help your PS3

Step 6a: for Linksys go to Applications & Gaming
You must login or register to view this content.

Step 6b: for Other Unknown, if someone could inform me, I would love you =D

Linksys Tactic
Step 7: Time to add ports =D!! There should be like, 10 spots open (some might be taken)

Step 8: There should be multiple columns with names of "Application, Start, End, Protocol, IP Address, Enable"

Step 9: Read the spoiler for all the comboes for the columns Winky Winky

IP Address will addressed later, don't put anything yet
Application name can be anything, only needing filled is Start, End and Protocol

Start : End : Protocol
53 : 53 : Both *
80 : 80 : Both *
88 : 88 : Both *
3074 : 3074 : Both *
10070 : 10080 : TCP
10070 : 10070 : UDP
6000 : 6999 : UDP

*Examples with an asterisk are unconfirmed but may still help.

You must login or register to view this content.

Step 10: After typing all the ports and crap, For the IP address, only the last part of IP should be able to be editted, change it anything above 10 (e.g. 82, 48, 103) and hit Enable (do this for ALL of the ports) and then hit Save Settings.

Step 11: Congrats, Port Opening done! Next step!

[multipage=Activating DMZ]

Turning on the DMZ

Step 12: Still on the router website and in Applications & Gaming, under the major row there should be a smaller row with the name "DMZ" on it, click it.

If you need to, hit enable before typing the number

Step 13: Type in the same number you typed in for the end of the IP that you used in Step 10 (e.g. if you did 82 for step 10, use 82 now.)
You must login or register to view this content.

Step 14: Hit save settings, and DMZ is done! Easy!

[multipage=Enabling UPnP]

Enabling UPnP

This may be done already, but just check

Step 15: Still in Router Website

Step 16: Click on 'Administration' next to Applications & Gaming

Step 17: Go down to 'UPnP' and hit enable if it already isn't enabled.
You must login or register to view this content.

Step 18: Done! Now to set up your PS3/XBOX!

[multipage=Setting up Console]

Setting up your console

This is done in PS3, not sure about technique for XBOX though

PS3 Method
Step 19: Start up your PS3 and go over to the Settings part of the XMB Menu

Step 20: Go down to Network Settings and open the Internet Connection Settings thing

Step 21: Choose custom for internet settings

Step 22: Scroll to the right until you reach IP Address, and hit manual

Step 23: Type in your IP Address that was used in Step 10

Step 24: Good, now go to right until you hit UPnP and make it Enabled

Step 25: Congratulations! You're done ..for now!

Step 26: Other tips will be added also.

Very nice post! But you have an unwanted step.. Using the dmz and UPNP at the same time can cause connection issues. Because the dmz puts you behind the firewall meaning your already bypassing the ports. While UPNP opens and closes any port for a device that has it enabled.

Some people won't, I'm just saying I had some problems with both on my old router, and alot of tech sites suggest using only one.

Or you can simply have a wired connection directly from your modem/router to your ps3, I did that once...it was amazingly fast.
