This might say Call of Duty on the box but there are a bunch of new tweaks to the multiplayer component of Call of Duty: Black Ops.

No More Killstreak Stacking
What this means is that you can no longer earn kills that come about from using the actual Killstreak reward (i.e. just because the Helicopter you called in kills seven guys, doesn't mean you get credit for it.
Stopping Power, Juggernaut, and Danger Close Perks are History
If you were a fan of any of the Perks listed above, sorry. You're out of luck. They've been stripped from the game in favor of giving players some more options for Class customization.
Quickscoping Removed
Previously you could equip a the Sleight of Hand Pro Perk to increase the sight time of your equipped weapon. If that weapon happened to be a sniper rifle, you could execute what is called "quickscoping" where the sniper could then use the powerful sniper rifle like a regular pistol. This time around, the Sleight of Hand Pro Perk will not have any affect on a player when they are using a sniper rifle.

Use Grenade Launchers as Mortars**

When using a weapon that fires grenades, such as the China Lake or the Grenade Launcher attachment for an assault rifle, you can bombard a position from far away. These grenade launchers are single-fire, meaning they have to be reloaded between shots (until you run out of ammo, that is), but the trajectory remains the same. Meaning, if you can line up a target perfectly, you can fire away and hit that same spot each time without having to adjust your aim.

This is particularly effective when playing objective-based multiplayer like Domination or Search & Destroy. Find the right spot on a map, and drop grenades on your destination without putting yourself directly in harm's way. The effect is similar to having the Mortar Team Killstreak Reward without actually having earned it.

Care Package Special Rewards**

When using the Care Package Kill Streak Reward or the Hardline Pro Perk, one of two rare rewards may be inside: the Grim Reaper and the Death Machine.

The Grim Reaper is a four-barreled rocket launcher, and th Death Machine is a minigun. Both are very powerful, but also do not show up often. They also leave you slightly vulnerable when using them, so be sure you have back-up from your team.

Keep the Enemy Team Blind

If the enemy team launches a Spy Plane, disable it quick with the Counter-Spy Plane Reward, but if you or no one else on your team has it, a Spy Plane can be shot by conventional weapons. SAMs, rockets, and small-arms fire can take down a Spy Plane, and it should be done as soon as the enemy sends one up. The less information the opposing team has about your team, the better it is for you. Plus, you get points for activating Counter-Spy Plans and for shooting down enemy Spy Planes.

The only exception is with the Blackbird Reward; once a Blackbird goes up, it cannot be shot down, only jammed with a Counter-Spy Plane Reward or with a Jammer. If your team sends up a Blackbird, take down any Counter-Spy Planes the enemy uses or find and disable any enemy Jammers.

Wager Matches**

The idea behind the Wager matches is to bet on the matches you participate in, each having their own special set of rules. You may choose to enter in a low-, medium-, or high-entry game, with varying amounts of your own money at stake. For example, the low-entry games start at 25 CoD Points, and you lose the money you bet if you don't place within the top 3 for that match. Once you bet, you can choose to 'ante up' (increase the amount of your initial bet), but only as long as the other players agree to it.

There are four different types of Wager Matches: One in the Chamber, Sticks and Stones, Gun Game, and Sharpshooter. Each one has a unique set of rules.

One in the Chamber

For this mode, you are given a knife and a pistol with one bullet. Each hit is an instant kill, and for every kill, you earn an extra bullet. All players have only three lives, and your bullet count is reset back to one when you die. While it may be obvious that using your knife to earn bullets may be the best strategy, it depends on your play style. For players that are excellent campers, it might be worth it to hunker down somewhere and wait for another player to pass by. Then, run up behind them and knife them in the back, earning you a bullet and saving the one you already have. The downside to this: if you're spotted, you need to be a crack shot with a pistol to defend yourself at long distances. Also, when it's just down to you and another player, a spy plane is immediately put in the air for the remainder of the match, giving your position away to your opponent.

If you're an offensive-minded player, keep moving. It's harder to hit a moving target than a stationary one. When you engage an opponent, remember the reach your knife has; swing too early and you leave yourself wide open for a knife to the face; swing too late and, well, you get the idea. If you choose to fire a rouind into your enemy, don't fire until you know you can hit your mark; if you're down to one bullet, make it count.

Our own Thierry Nguyen witnessed this tactic in a Wager Match: if you have at least two bullets and are spotted by another player, fire off a round. If you miss, it's OK because you have another one ready to go. Plus, they might think you've already fired your only bullet and might move in closer. This will give you another, and probably better, chance of shooting them.

Another tactic that was observed: run at your opponent and do the dive maneuver (press and hold the crouch button during a sprint). While lying prone on the ground, you're gun is already pointing forwards, all it needs is a little aim adjustment by perhaps using the pistol's iron sights, and you can line up a kill. This works if the other player fires their pistol at you while you're running, and hopefully your dive causes the bullet to sail overhead. The downside is that you're not very mobile while lying prone and your target has a better chance of either knifing you if they get close, or shooting at you again if they have another bullet. This tactic is not recommended (and it's probably more for show than anything else), but it's been done.

Sticks and Stones

This mode only uses the Crossbow, Ballistic Knife, and Tomahawk. Kills with the Ballistic Knife and Tomahawk are instant, and hits with the explosive tip arrows from the Crossbow can cause splash damage that will either kill, or slow down your opponent(s). You earn more money for every kill you make, but if you're killed with a Tomahawk, you lose everything.

Because the Crossbow can fire explosives, it might seem like the obvious strategy to use that, but unless you get an explosive arrow to stick to a target, they still have a chance of escaping the explosion. The downside to using the crossbow is that you only get one explosive-tipped arrow and reloading the regular arrows (which may not kill on contact) takes a while. The Crossbow can be used to snipe targets or take out campers.

The Ballistic Knife is versatile in that it's a close- and long-range weapon. You can knife people like you're using the regular combat knife, and it can be aimed and fired at enemies at a distance. Plus, just like the Tomahawk, you can pick up Knives you've fired (if you're alive to pick them up, that is).

Before you fire your Ballistic Knife, use the Tomahawk first. If it hits, you Bankrupt your target. If not, you have your Ballistic Knife to fall back on.

Gun Game and Sharpshooter

Gun Game and Sharpshooter both have rotating weapons. Gun Game features ranked weapons, where you earn a different weapon periodically. There are 20 levels of weapons, and the winner is the one that survives with the final weapon. Getting knifed causes you to drop down to the previous level. Sharpshooter has everyone use the same type of weapon with an attachment. You also earn a score multiplier after a certain set of kills. You also earn perks for getting killstreaks.

For those two Wager Match types, it's best to be proficient in all manner of weaponry. Playing offensively is also recommended, as it's not surviving that counts, but having the most points that does.

Do a barrel roll!
i read this wayyyy before.
like probably 3 months ago.
i'm sure anyone who plays this game can figure out the killstreaks, that killstreaks don't stack, care packages, and especially counter-spy planes.
