This is not a perfect quote, but i believed he said " I wonder whats wrong with Nikolai...maybe its because what we did to him that he drinks vodka so much" or something along the likes of that.

How is this an easter egg?

Before they were fighting zombies, a couple of radio messages(?) stated that the solders, including the doctor, were experimented on to become "super soldiers" (to gain enhanced bodily functions, etc.). This also explains how the four survived the initial zombie outbreak along with the events from W@W.

I'm not completely certain that exactly what I said happened, but I am pretty sure about reading something about the super soldier.
