Shangri-La Info

So the new Black Ops Map Pack has been confirmed and the zombie map is called, "Shangri-La." I wanted to see if I could find any good info on this map. This is what I've discovered so far.

Well for starters, it looks like our good ol' zombies gang is making a return! In the video you see Nikolai and Takeo running through some traps. Most of you probably don't care, but I think Nikolai's a ****ing stud!

What Is Shangri-La?

Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton. In the book, "Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia — a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world. In the novel Lost Horizon, the people who live at Shangri-La are almost immortal, living years beyond the normal lifespan and only very slowly aging in appearance. The word also evokes the imagery of exoticism of the Orient. In the ancient Tibetan scriptures, existence of seven such places is mentioned as Nghe-Beyul Khimpalung. One of such places is mentioned to be situated somewhere in the Makalu-Barun region.

A story line instantly pops in my head after reading that. Dempsey and the crew somehow drop by the "permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world." By doing so, "the people who live at Shangri-La that are almost immortal, living years beyond the normal lifespan" potentially get angered, thus starting the zombies attack!

Where is Shangri-La?

Several places in the Buddhist Himalaya between northern India and Tibet have claimed to be the location for Shangri-La.

Why there?

Since the 1933 novel, there has been several Shangri-La pseudo-legends that have developed. One of them being the Nazis had an enthusiasm for Shangri-La, where they hoped to find an ancient master race.

It may not be called Nazi zombies anymore, but that's where it all began so this could be the reason for this map.

ALSO

In Call of the Dead, there's two achievements for doing the map's easter egg. The achievements say send the crew to paradise. That could definitely be this map!

This “exotic and mysterious map filled with deadly traps, dark secrets and innovative gameplay that will challenge even the most daring Zombie hunters” will be out June 28 for Xbox, and a PS3 launch most likely coming a month later
