Annihilation may mean the end of Zombie mode as we know it. This is why.
In campaign when Mason is in Vorkuta Reznov shouts eight steps. If you connect the steps with each zombie map you will get an eerie similarity.
Step 1: Secure The Keys. Nacht Der Untoten: The Beginning.
Step 2: Ascend From Darkness. Verrückt: The first map with power.
Step 3: Rain Fire. Shi No Numa: Tunguska Meteor rains to Earth.
Step 4: Unleash The Horde. Der Riese: The Zombie horde was first unleashed at this location.
Step 5: Skewer The Winged Beast. Kino der Toten: When power is turned on, a beast is heard on top of the building.
Step 6: Wield a Fist of Iron. Ascension: After the Gersch part, you get the death machines. Five: First map death machines is introduced in.
Step 7: Raise Hell. Call of the Dead: Maybe when you saved the crew.
Step 8: Freedom. Annihilation
My theory for step 8 in zombies is like the campaign. Maybe a sort of sacrifice will be made. Anyways if the story is followed like in Ascension and Call of The Dead we will figure out what happens. BTW it's the original crew in the Annihilation map pack.
since COTD didn't contribute to the storyline I don't think it's in the 8 steps, look at my edit to the quote of you
Wait a sec. Look at the connection here. When you finished the Easter egg on Call of The Dead you teleport the crew elsewhere. Look at the vid below.
Listen at 12:15. Once the notification comes up you hear an elephant. Kinda strange right? So the new map will be in a rain forest type environment and it would seem logical animals are around. So maybe COtD contributed but not as much as the others.

WTF did I put next to acension. Anyways FIVE did not at all contribute to the story line.
