It didn't really matter too me, except when I remembered what Richtofen says when you first start the game
"Dempsey, I think I see your house from here... Its on fire!". How would they be able to see his house if Area 51 was on earth? Well, my thought is that when they teleport, they actually travel back in time before they blew earth up.
And the only person who seems to know they aren't on earth in the beginning is Richtofen.

OMG. People are such conspiracy theorists. AREA 51 IS ON EARTH. All treyarch did was reuse the view of space after the EE. In the game, Treyarch didn't actually make a moon and an earth. It's all one level. It just that the dome they put around the surface looks like space and the dome around Area 51 looks like a blue sky. When the EE is done, they reuse the dome of space (Which includes the earth in that dome) and put it over Area 51. They didn't think that people would go into that back corner after the EE where they would most likely die. It's just a fail by treyarch. Area 51 IS on the Earth.

In the game. Like I said. Treyarch failed. It's supposed to be. But they reused the atmosphere of the moon and they didn't count on us finding there little fail.
