A JTAG Hack is basically a hack that can run homebrew in less than 10 seconds. Homebrew, in one way or another, is an unsigned code. This means running codes that aren't signed or endorsed by a company; the person who made it or changed the code is private. This can mean making your own games or applying changes to a game that is not intended to be used / game play . ( Godmode, Noclip, Infinite Ammo, etc )

JTAG Hack is NOT PRESENT to the PS3, YET, and is unlikely.

The JTAG Hack on the XBOX 360 basically turns the console into a homebrew devkit. It allows the 360 to be compatible with any SATA Hard Drive, play unsigned XEX ( Or pirated 360 games, copied games, such as a copied version of MW2 ), and as I said earlier, play and run unsigned codes. It will not check live signatures, so you can get free content.

Using these codes, such as infinite ammo online will cause other players to experience them too, unless the code is designed only to affect the player. These people experiencing the modified code do not actually need the hack. The hack goes on from one player in a room to another, starting a chain reaction.

Of course, mods of the consoles online, such as Microsoft, will look for users that are affecting gameplay in a negative way towards others, such as going into an ac-130 and hammering everyone with a cannonpwner, or lobbing thousands of noobtubes into the opposite team. They will then go banhammer on your 360, so you won't be able to play online again, wasting your live membership. However, people have discovered a way to make these JTAG's unbannable. This would mean that you can mingebag your way through online and not be banned, or if you do, go back online again.

I know alot of people on this forum don't actually know what a JTAG is, other than that it is a modified Xbox. Hope that this introduction to JTAG helps others understand what JTAG is a little bit more clear.

you can run any software you want though. it doesnt need bluray. you can do it via usb or add ports as needed even

I will not flame this...

The only potential jtag port on the ps3 was the bluray... in no way was I describing what is was used for, just describing what the ps3 hardware (Pre slim) looked like on the interior and what had been tried.

Also, I suggest you look for geohot's ps3 blog, some useful information and if you are truly interested in how his progress is going and what he is finding.

Now when I say its over 99% of the people on this board's head, I am including myself in that category. You need advanced knowledge of PPC and C to be anywhere useful at this stage... This is not a simple 4 or 5 solder hack.

The PS3 is a magnificent piece of hardware put together...

Lol yeah thanks for not flaming Alpha Smile

Geohot also hacked the iPhone right? I heard about having access to the main parts but couldn't alter them or something; it didn't have anything to do with blu-ray, but the actual control of the console lies behind some other piece of hardware that is behind another piece and so on, which turns into a very confusing chain
