(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Capture The Flag, was first on COD WaW, and was not on COD4 at all, Infinity Ward decided to include it in MW2 because it was a popular mode.

There are several differences between Capture the Flag in WaW and MW2:
1. In WaW you got the same amount of XP for a kill as you did in TDM, this meant you got rewarded for defending aa well as attacking.
2. In WaW there was a flag capture limit of 3 per round, and there were 2 rounds.
3. When you took the flag in WaW you would only show up on radar if they had a UAV, and even then if you had camo(Cold Blooded) you would never show up at all.
4. In MW2 CTF overtime(when scores are level), you simply have to touch the enemy flag to win.

Why i Like CTF:
It has gameplay for all styles of play, and all of them help the team, whether you want to camp the flag, attack, ghost etc
so you can play how you want, help the team, and get alot of kills and xp too.

The differences in Gameplay because of the above:
1. Because now once you have the flag in your posession, a big sign follows you saying KILL whether you have cold-blooded or not, so alot of the tactics that were effective on WaW, in particular stealth, are no longer effective; Its a simple case of take your time getting to the flag, then grab it and run back to your flag as fast as possible.
2. Unlimited Capture Limit means attackers get much more xp and score, than defenders, especially as the kill xp has been halved.

Tips & General Strategy:

Attacking:
as an Attacker you need 1 perk, Marathon.
without marathon you'll rarely get 1 capture, lightweight is also fantastic for attacking. For me personally its a split between cold blooded and lightweight for perk 2, cold blooded can help you get to their flag alot easier, whilst lightweight increases your speed getting there and back(by 7% i think).
Use smoke grenades, on most modes they are not overly useful but on CTF they are, you can throw it on the enemy flag whilst you get it, or you can use it to cover yourself, for example get the flag and throw it on the bridge on rundown, you are then completely covered whilst crossing, without that smoke you would probably have died.
3rd perk in my opinion should be ninja, simply because a good defender will likely have a heartbeat sensor(at least 1 of them will).
For equipment there are 2 good peices to use; Tactical Insertion which is fantastic if they don't notice it as you can effectively spawn at their flag repeatedly, also another under-used peice of equipment, the blast shield.
For a weapon you need an SMG, preferably silenced, simply for the speed boost whilst moving.
if you put the blast shield on, just as your running to their flag, you are protected from nearby claymores, C4, a defender with a n00btube, Semtex, RPG's, AT-4 etc. once your in the clear you can remove it.
Strategy wise, as an attacker you want to sprint round the edge of the map, to flank behind them, i'd then advise placing a tactical insertion, removing any campers and then dashing for the flag. because of the KILL sign you do rely on the defence getting killstreaks alot more because that prevents people chasing you.

Chaining Flags: this is the best way to win by 20+ captures, you have 3 attackers as 1 person takes the flag the other 2 wait near the enemy flag, your team mate captures, the next guy takes the flag, he returns and joins the queue. so effectively there is not 1 second all game, in which your team do not possess the enemy flag.

Defence:
As a defender, your primary role is killing people who take the flag, but as there is no longer a capture limit, sometimes its better to not leave your position and risk a death. The reason that is, is because 1 chopper gunner could = 3 captures for your team, so its worth risking them getting 1 capture, in order for you to get air support.
If you go chasing people who have your flag, as a defender you immediately become at risk of the chaining flags strategy, because you are out of position.
once they start doing it, its very difficult to regain composure and get back into position, particularly because your spawn will change.
so its often down to attackers, to camp the enemy flag, simply to return your teams flag.
As a defender, the tips are pretty obvious claymores are a must, for a gun you really need an assault rifle(unless its wasteland/derail, then you could snipe), as an attchment i recommend the 2 most hated attachments in the game, the heartbeat sensor and the grenade launcher.
these are good, because attackers, can't resist putting commando on with marathon and lightweight, so they become a sitting target for you, grenade launchers are very effective for simply firing at the flag when they run to it, and it allows you to kill them even if they have used smoke.
I like to use a grenade laucnher with hardline, so i can get a killstreak going fast.
For a secondary you want a shotgun purely becuase of the marathon, lightweight users that will run by claymores and try to end your killstreak. i recommend the AA-12 or ranger akimbo.

General info and tips:
The spawns are fixed in CTF, they will spawn at and around their flag, unless you are camping there, in which case their spawn will move to another fixed place, considerably away from their flag.
for example on skidrow, il often camp in the building with a hole in the wall right next to their flag, they'd normally spawn just outside and below, but becuase im here it changes their spawn to the other end of that tunnel.
so i can effectively single-handedly prevent the enemy from even getting near their own flag.
Because of this, a ghost who flanks behind them just for kills and camps their flag with cold-blooded, ca be very effective in aiding the attackers and makes their job alot easier.
Because the spawns are not random, you will not get any cases of people spawning behind you and ending your streak(which is common on modes like TDM,FFA etc) unless you run into there spawn, in which case you'd die anyway when 6 people spawned there.
So you pretty much always know where the enemy are and where they will come from, as a result killstreaks dominate CTF.

A good tactic i like to do, is to get 3+ captures 1st round, and then simply get everyone camping your flag and building up killstreaks. they are foced to come to you, in order to win; so kills are easy. once you get some air support, the game is won.
