Obviously, a lot of people hate scrambler.
It seems like a bad perk idea, of course, because enemy players can tell when they're close to you.

But really, if you know how to use it, it can be pretty good. The thing is, it's not a straight forward perk like stopping power or sleight of hand. It takes a lot of strategy to be able to use it right.

First off, it's defiantly not for run-and-gunners. That's what starts most people hating it. If you run around, then anybody standing still will be alert and watch for you. Obviously that's not going to work.

There are two good uses for it though:

1) If you are in a clan that uses a lot of communication, like six people that actually talk and cover each other in team games. If the team stays in a relatively tight group, and the person with scavenger is the man in the middle, it lets the other team know where your team is BUT not where each individual player is. The result: Heckova lot of chaos for the other team, and a victory for your team.

Unfortunately, not many of us can say that we spend most of our matches with our highly-communicative clan.

The other use, though, is great if you can master it.

2) Camping. Not to get a high kill streak, but as a game strategy by itself. Just staying in an area to get a lot of kills in general.

But how does scrambler help?

In this case, scrambler is used mostly to mess with experienced players.

What you need to do is find a spot that you are well covered in, that is close to a popular camping spot. For example:

You must login or register to view this content.

You see that shack in the upper-right corner, overlooking the poppy fields? There will often be somebody camping (or just plain hiding) in side of there.

Now take a look directly behind the shack, and you'll see a corner overlooking the entrance to the shack.

You must login or register to view this content.

Perfect. The spaces are close enough together that scrambler will jam anybody near you, and you have a perfect view of the entrance to the shack.

Sooooo...

Almost every MW2 player will go and check inside of the shack first. And then you just nail them in the back of the head.

The same spot will work for awhile, but eventually one of the enemy players will get smart and kill you.

Luckily, there are lots of spots on every map that you can use.

***

And that's the end of my long lecture on scrambler, sorry if I bored you to death, but really. It's probably not my favorite third-tier perk, but it deserves more credit than it gets.

I've tried out the second strategy, and believe me, it works. In fact, the end result is pretty funny, watching the clueless players run right past you. But it takes some practice to get right.

Also, with a little effort, you'll be able to know when somebody has figured out your real location, in which case (if we are using the example earlier) you would just move into the shack and take 'em out. Happy

Another good way is to go below spawn points or local areas of enemies (if possible...)
