I prefer shotguns, as I prefer being able to take out large groups of enemies without reloading. As you said, the long time to switch to them is their downside.

Actually try the rafficas or G18's akimbo they just tear the place down, they take more skill than shotguns, skilled players will generally limit themselves to give them a challenge, people who use shotguns are either bad players, trying them out or skilled players just tryharding to get a great score.
