Post: Why is there an "outside" to the maps?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I'm just curious what you guys think, about why Infinity Ward makes outer parts to these maps? I know most of them only have a little bit of the map outside, so that the map doesn't just look black outside, but with some of them, like Favela and Karachi, why did they writing all that extra code if they don't want us going out there?

If you have ever tried building a map from scratch. You always start at a bigger scale. Its then too much trouble to cut out the "extra" bits as.it would create leaks between blocks and textures.

Not necessarily, you could make a small area and build up bit by bit or make something huge then cut/refine it. Plus all these maps start out as sketches and drawing not 3D models.

I was just saying that all maps start with a base, say 50sqm for example. After they put things on top of the base, its hard to cut off the extra.

Sure, they have different bases depending on the size they have in mind, doesn't mean they always stick to it.

This is off topic with MW2 but it is related to making maps, did anyone here every play Rogue Spear on PC? You could make your own maps back then and let people DL them.. lot of fun

Generally, if there's a high point on a map, or a view point from the edge, players don't like to see a huge black void.

It adds to the environment, giving it a sense of scale and making it seem more realistic.

I always thought they do it on purpose. It seems to me that on some maps its very detailed, almost like they expected people to get out.

Thatd be pretty funny if there was a big wall covering the map so you couldnt get out.

Yeah the bigger the maps are not always better i prefer cod 4's smaller maps to mw2's larger maps
