Introduction

So yeah, every night I've been getting bored, and have been making guides, and it really passes the time. So this time, I thought instead of making a weapon guide, I'll make a gameplay style guide - so here goes.

Stealth was possible in the first Modern Warfare, and still is possible in the second, although a lot harder. This is mainly due to the spawns, the MW2 spawns are very hard to predict, thus you have to be aware at all times. Also in MW2, you have to worry about being stopped in much more open spaces.

I would also like to state, where credit is necessary, credit will be given, under each source I use (if I use any) I will post a link to the page I got it off. If I were to use a source it would mainly be an image, which you can find the URL of anyway, or the Call of Duty wiki, for gun stats.

Before I continue with the guide, please do not accuse me of copy and pasting/stealing people's work, just because I've made a few guides recently - I make them to pass time. I know there is a thread like this - I hope to vastly improve on it, in organisation, and content.

[multipage=Types of Stealth]

Types of Stealth

There are 2 known types of stealth, which I will list - there will be a section where you can add your own stealth types, with classes, and things like that. The two main stealthing classes I am talking about, are obviously the 'ghost' and the 'ninja', which I will now explain.

Ghost

Ghosts basically do what the name suggests - full stealth, utilising invisibility. They tend to kill enemies from the back, whilst doing so, they stay hidden. The usage of Cold-Blooded and a silenced weapon is vital, said weapon is usually an SMG, too maximise mobility, however, AR's are feasible too.

Ninja

On the other hand, ninjas do not tend to go all out stealth - instead just keep mobile, and use this to remain unseen/spotted. SMG's or AR's are the most viable choice for a ninja.

Other tactics when being a ninja tend to be using an RPG-7/AT4-HS, to clear out a room, then move on. In other situations, however, a silencer is always needed.

This sounds strange, but if you are using a silenced weapon, use stopping power, and if you are using an un-silenced weapon, use cold-blooded. The main reason for this is, when using this approach, you must sometimes attract the enemies attention to maximise kills.

[multipage=Equipment]

Equipment

Every good stealther needs some top quality equipment to assist them. For ease of reading, each equipment will be analysed individually, and given a rating in bold at the end of each description, this helps choose your favoured equipment.

Frag/Semtex; These are useful for taking out multiple threats, but I would only recommend using when taking the ninja approach. As far as choice of grenade is concerned, I would choose the frag, it makes less noise, and you have the ability to cook, to time each toss to perfection. 4/5

C4; Very useful, setting a trap is so convenient, whichever way you execute it, whether it be setting it at a door, waiting for entry. Or whether it is leading an enemy into your line of fire and detonating. The C4 can be un-expectingly useful. 4/5

Claymores; When stealthing - your movement is constant, therefore claymores are not needed, however, they can be utilised as traps - therefore are not completely stupid to use. 3/5

Throwing Knives; I'm sure we all do feel quite great when we get a kill with these, but they are only really useful for taking out an enemy silently, however there are better choices than this. 2/5

Blast Shield; Baring in mind your going to be agile, you tend to get away from explosions, do not use. 0/5

Tactical Insertion; Very useful, very recommended, plant in behind the enemies, and your straight back in. If used correctly they can be deadly, if used incorrectly, they can backfire dreadfully, recommended for ghosts. 4/5

Stun Grenade; Probably the best choice for anything else but stealthing, really bad choice for stealthing. Avoid them, unless your really attached. The main reason this isn't a great choice is the fact that your constantly going to be in behind the enemy anyway, so hopefully you won't need to disorient them. Better choices available. 1/5

Flash Grenade; Perfect for clearing out rooms, blinds a very wide radius which often gets you out of trouble/gives you time to be unseen. 4/5

Smoke Grenade; So many uses. Distracting enemies - plant the smoke over to the left, run to the right, free idiots to kill. Plant it in a zone, run into it, confused idiots to kill. Epic, priceless, use it. 5/5

[multipage=Movement]

Movement

A key way too stay alive, beats snipers, assault rifles, and sub machine guns, movement is brilliant when stealthing.

There are multiple techniques of movement, that could be used to avoid fire. The most commonly used would have to be dropshotting, which is basically going prone when taking fire from the enemy, this makes you harder to shoot, due to the smaller target, and often distracts the enemy. This is useful with the tactical button layout.

Strafing is a very good alternative, especially whilst shooting at a target. Works especially well if you can maintain accuracy whilst strafing, because more often than not, the victim cannot. Strafing is moving back and forth/left and right, very good tactic.

Additionally, you could just stay mobile in general, duck and dip, use cover, this will eventually cause snipers to take their eyes off you, potentially giving you the upper hand. It also causes havoc on the enemies UAV (if your not using cold-blooded). UAVs do not scan very often, therefore if you keep mobile, your harder to read.

[multipage=Sound]

Sound

Sound is important. The ability to know your enemies weapon, and position, pays dividend, very often. Concentration and sound have an interesting correlation, the more you concentrate, the more you here, which is often useful if you are the last man in a search and destroy, or something similar.

Footsteps can sometimes be deceiving, you could be hearing your teammates, and mistake them for the enemies. However, this is normally conquered by looking at your mini-map, if you teammates are nearby, it's more than likely an enemy.

If you have a headset, it is recommended to use it, essentially they block out the sounds around you, and only focus on the ones coming from your game. This usually gives you the upper-hand, as in games these days not many people have headsets, most tend to have their pathetic music blasting in the background.

Certain perks give you an advantage when it comes to sound, however these will be explained in the perks section, oddly enough.

[multipage=Button Layout]

Button Layout

There are only two button layouts I would use, for any game situation, the default combination, or the tactical combination, which makes the circle/B button melee, and the right stick to go prone.

If you are a person who dropshots, tactical is recommended, for obvious reasons, you want to be down quick, and your thumb is normally on the right stick, which means you can hit it quicker than the circle/B.

In general the tactical layout is better for stealthing, as you will more likely be in behind the enemy, therefore you won't need to knife in a 1v1 situation, you will be knifing from the back, which means the circle/B button shouldn't be an issue.

If you cannot get used to tactical, and prefer to use the default, I would firstly recommended sticking it out with tactical. If this still comes to no success, don't worry, it won't dampen your chances of anything. It just tends to be easier and more beneficial to use the tactical setup in this approach to the game.

[multipage=Perks]

Perks

As with the equipment, a brief description will be given, followed by a rating in bold at the end of it.

Marathon; Unlimited sprint, faster climbing? Beautiful. However, if your ammo depletes fast, marathon shouldn't be your choice. If you can manage your ammo, and possibly find a replacement weapon along the lines to assist you, marathon is a beautiful choice. 3/5

Scavenger; If your not using marathon, this is the only other tier 1 perk you should use. Why? When stealthing you stay alive for long periods (or at least you should) so you need to keep a constant ammo supply, and as I said in marathon, if you cannot do so, scavenger is a must. 3.5/5

Lightweight; Having 7% faster movement is wonderful, and very often a life-saver, just ensure you move a lot, and maintain your accuracy whilst strafing. If you are confident enough to stealth without cold-blooded, this should be your only other tier 2 perk. 4/5

Cold-Blooded; Combine this with a silencer, and your invisible, this is the only perk you should use when ghosting. Unless you are partially ghosting. However, cold-blooded is a must for beginners. 5/5

Commando; Increased knife range and no falling damage can be convenient, however this perk is only recommended when taking the ninja approach. 3/5

Ninja; The HBS undetectability factor, and the silent footsteps is perfect for ghosting, just adds that extra stealthy edge. Very recommended for any type of stealth. 5/5

SitRep; You can see all equipment placed, which is perfect for detecting/expecting campers. The pro perk makes enemy footsteps 4x louder, which means you can focus on only their footsteps, and forget about your teams.

[multipage=Gun Choice]

I will only be listing AR's and SMG's, as they are the only guns you should use stealthing. For the AR's, I will be listing the no recoil, mid to long range guns.

When choosing an AR you want to avoid the 3 round burst ones, and the single fire. These can be useful, but are not consistent enough to manage to keep you alive at most times.

*ALL GUNS ARE ANALYSED UNDER THE ASSUMPTION OF A SILENCER BEING ATTACHED*

M4A1; Pretty stable gun, can be used from the hip aswell as fired from long range. Works well due to the lack of recoil, and when fired in short bursts can be deadly even at huge ranges. Recommended for beginners. 4/5

SCAR-H; Although it has a high damage, and little recoil, the clip size lets it down. You may be thinking, extended mags. Well, that would require us using bling, which is a no no. This gun could be used, but I wouldn't recommend it. 2/5

TAR-21; My personal choice, only because I can manage the recoil. If you can manage to master this recoil, this gun is by far the best AR to pick. It's high damage, great RoF, and good accuracy make it by far the most feasible. 5/5

ACR; Very easy to use, no recoil, great from all distances. Not great for short distances, which is why the TAR is preferred. Although the ACR is the best alternative to the TAR if you cannot handle it. 4/5

MP5K; Great gun, devastating CQB damage, and high RoF, but lacks mid-long range capability. The silencer attachment doesn't add many flaws, so it is a good choice. 3/5

UMP45; Minimal recoil, when fired in short bursts can manage great distances, deadly from the hip, mobile, this gun has everything you would want to stealth. Personal choice of SMG. 5/5

P90; Bigger clip size than other SMG's, although a higher RoF doesn't make the clip all that bigger, isn't great from mid-long range, as the recoil is unpredictable. Extremely good from the hip, however. 3/5

Vector; Again, not great from any other distance, other than CQB. Small clip, high RoF, not good for stealthing. I would avoid it. 2/5

Mini-Uzi; If you can manage to get the hang of this gun it is great. Due to the fact MW2 has sliced the recoil from CoD4, this gun has turned surprisingly good at mid range combat. Devastating CQB damage, and good RoF, make it a viable choice. 4/5

[multipage=Tips and Tricks]

Tips and Tricks

As always, you all want some additional hints, to help you even more, so here is a short list of some quickfire tips that will get you going even more.

1) Go round the perimeter of the map - this makes you stay out of the open areas, and maximises your ability to be hidden.

2) Have a good class setup - you need to be able to use your setup, practice, practice, practice! You must be able to use your primary in a stealth scenario.

3) Your UAV is king - use the red dots to your advantage, constantly be aware of enemy positioning.

4) Listen out - footsteps are a huge giveaway as to where the enemies are, hearing well gives that slight edge.

5) Flank at all times - getting in behind the enemies will keep you unseen, and get you kills at the same time.

6) Target campers - these are the type of kills we want, they are easy to pick out once flanked, and are the people who will kill you mainly.

7) Keep quiet - ensure the enemy cannot hear you, and you will be just fine.

[multipage=Thanks!]

Thanks for reading guys, if you truly did.

One more time - this is not copy and pasted material, it is purely mine.

Thanks/nominations as always are appreciated, as is feedback. For once could we please keep away from the negatives? Thank you!

Sam out.

Million Miles Of Fun!
Very nice guide man, I LOVE using C4 in S&Awesome face, or any obj mode for that matter and planting it on the bomb when there is only one enemy left on the other team and right when he picks it up I detonate it from my secret clubhouse, so much fun.

Once again good guide, useful as most people just run around clueless(not even going to finish the phrase as its said so many damn times)
