And don't wear it out.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); If you have been following all of the recent tutorials on how to modify the MW2 patch, you've seen that most require taking out your hard drive and connecting it to your computer.

It seems that on every thread, multiple people are asking how to do this. So I figured a tutorial thread was in order Winky Winky

[Keep in mind that if you remove your Hard Drive Sony won't replace it if it doesn't work afterwards. Don't worry; that's not as big of a deal as it sounds.]

First off, you're going to need a cable, generally priced around $20 (I believe that's a little over 13 pounds).

This cable is a Serial ATA to USB 2.0 Adapter. Basically one end is a USB that plugs into your computer, and the other end plugs into the PS3 Hard Drive. Now, the "Serial ATA" end needs to be 2.5", which is the size needed for the PS3 Hard Drive.

Where to get the cable?

Some searches on eBay would work, but here are some more links:

All of those would do nicely. I'd defiantly recommend Fry's if you want to buy it in person, and Amazon if you want to order it online.

***

Now that you've got the cable, all you need to do is take out your PS3's hard drive (Ohhhhh Nooooo!)

Don't worry, it's not that hard. The drive is located at the bottom of the PS3. If you can't figure out how to remove it on your own, just find a good video on youtube that shows you how. I'd recommend this one:

***

Once your hard drive's out, simply connect it to your computer using your newly-bought cable and you're good to go!

From there, just follow one of the tutorials in the hacking section on how to make your own mods. Have fun, and good luck.

Can’t trickshot me!
I agree really nice tutorial guy ...

I've just a question about the hard disk drive ...

Isn't it dangerous to remove his Hard Disk Drive everytime ? (I mean ... Couldn't we lose some save by error or hacking fail ?)

Thanks again.

^Same question as him.

Also, I just opened up my whole PC and ended up with a big disappointment... It doesn't use the 2.5" SATA but a older version which has the data and power cables separated.
I want an answer to my question before I am going to buy a 20Euros SATA 2.5" to USB 2.0 adaptor. After I decrypt the HDD, will I be able to see everything on it like I would do on a normal external HDD? If so, then please link me to an .pkg editor/opener as I would gladly learn some MW2 "Scripting language" (server.cfg) to mod the patch. Thank you very much.

It's not as easy as opening a pkg file. A pkg file is a compressed file, similar to a zip or rar file. It's a file format used by macs commonly, and is easy to extract them on macs. However extracting pkg's on Windows in harder, and you need alot of disk space. I posted a bit in premium about this so I am revealing no more than this. But I think you're barking up the wrong tree here, so to speak.

Ok, thank you very much... Seems I won't buy that adapter... Meh, we'll wait untill someone finds a way to get to challenge lobbies. I wish you the best of luck, mates.

If you want to still buy the adapter, don't let me discourage you, but it's just more complicated than alot of people think. I just don't want people to waste time and money (as I have). The more people looking the more chance there is of finding. I have some new files that I will scour for useful information, but again i'm keeping it premium to avoid leaks before it's complete
