It seems that on every thread, multiple people are asking how to do this. So I figured a tutorial thread was in order

[Keep in mind that if you remove your Hard Drive Sony won't replace it if it doesn't work afterwards. Don't worry; that's not as big of a deal as it sounds.]

First off, you're going to need a cable, generally priced around $20 (I believe that's a little over 13 pounds).

This cable is a Serial ATA to USB 2.0 Adapter. Basically one end is a USB that plugs into your computer, and the other end plugs into the PS3 Hard Drive. Now, the "Serial ATA" end needs to be 2.5", which is the size needed for the PS3 Hard Drive.

All of those would do nicely. I'd defiantly recommend Fry's if you want to buy it in person, and Amazon if you want to order it online.

Now that you've got the cable, all you need to do is take out your PS3's hard drive (Ohhhhh Nooooo!)

Don't worry, it's not that hard. The drive is located at the bottom of the PS3. If you can't figure out how to remove it on your own, just find a good video on youtube that shows you how. I'd recommend this one:

Once your hard drive's out, simply connect it to your computer using your newly-bought cable and you're good to go!

From there, just follow one of the tutorials in the hacking section on how to make your own mods. Have fun, and good luck.

Removing the HDD does not void you warranty, so do not worry about that, although editing a patch does breach the EULA and PSN terms, but they'll never find out so its all good

Oh, looks like your right, don't know where I got that idea from lol.

Although apparently they will not cover it if the hard drive fails after you try to do something to it.

LOL, if I ever get round to editing the patch, I'm just gonna plop a new HDD in there for editing the patch, and keep the original HDD unedited. This way it would be easier to find the patch and stuff because I would only have the patch and the save data on the HDD, and no extra stuff like music, demos etc. Then if sumin ever does happen, in goes the old HDD, and back to sony it goes, lol

Can you connect the SATA input of your motherboard to the SATA output of the PS3 harddrive?
