I have downloaded the patch and dumped the hdd onto my Linux partition. I know I can edit the patch_mp.ff without errors etc. So here's the theory if any one can add to it please do. But only logical. Please don't say I won't work!! Cause I plan to try it regarless. My questions will follow the theory

Playstation 3 with 3.15 and Linux.
Dump ps3 partition onto Linux partition (have already done this and am about to mod the patch_mp.ff)

System link 2 playstations via router (playsplitscreen mw2) or maybe do a file transfere?? Patch 1.11 is not copyright protected.

Maybe there's a way to infect in splitscreen system link. So the low firmware ps3 can infect the challenges and jump etc to the new firmware playstaion. Then bypass. It's a wild theory but am gonna test. Anyone have any input??

Here's an important question.

If I do a backup on the 3.15 will it restore to the 3.40

If someone can test please do. Even if it's 3.21 backup and restore to 3.30 or 3.40

If you have tested the backup feature first hand please don't just say it won't work.

And I am aware both ps3's need to be on same firmware for files transfer utility. But that's for swapping out copyright protected data. (the patch isn't copyrighted and can be backed up to USB extenal hdd I just need to know if it can restore to higher firmware)

That was my question mate. Seems it will just prompt a format as firmwares are different.

This sound quite promising and what i can say i think this will work via infections as its true aim etc is infectious so brendan i would say give it a go you have nothing to lose from now

If there not a trick somewhere to mix two different ps3 backups so you back up both then Restore 3.15 but With the archive 0.2 or whatever from 3.4 it's on ps3news somewhere.

If you did a restore of ps3 1 to ps3 2.

It would force you to install 3.40, Since ps3 2 has had 3.40 on it.

As far as tricking, the ps3 to let you downgrade, I'm not sure that would ever be possbile without physically modding the ps3. Reason so, is because the fw information is stored on the ps3 nand chip, not the hdd.

you may be on to something using lan party because i remember when unknown used to do lobby before he did a lobby he did a unjoinable team deathmatch in afghan which could either be splitscreen or lan party

With lan party,you can play with 2 ps3 doesnt have the same fw .
It could possible to made something with this option like mod server ,dont forget it !

Hey brendan since we know that when doing a USB Backup. We know that archive_02 is the patch with a tiny bit of extra stuff.
why dont u do a usb backup on ur 3.40 PS3 and swap the Archive_02 with the 3.15 (modded) one and restore it??? it might work.

EDIT: brendan u could also buy an Infectious (IDK how to spell it) Mod Chip and install it on ur 3.15 PS3. so when u have done the hacks u update to 3.40.
and when A new patch comes up u downgrade back to 3.15 and soo on.
