1st step:
IW added an additional file header to the ff-files (12-bytes: 49 57 66 66 75 31 30 30 05 00 00 00) and you need to remove it first before you can decompress the file.

2nd step:
After removing the header, your file should begin with 78, the header for Zlib with max./best compression. Store the file (don’t overwrite your sourcefiles, always create backupfiles first) in the folder where the ff_iw.exe is located. Open or create the decompress.bat or anything like that, use the command “ff_iw –d NAME_OF_THE_FF-SOURCEFILE NAME_OF_THE_NEW_GENERATED_FILE” in it and run the bat-file.

3rd step:
Now you will find a decompressed file in your folder. You can open this file with the Hex-Editor and do with it whatever you want. You can rip content, edit content or just check the files included for an overview.

4th step:
When you’ve edited the content and want to test something you only need to compress the file again. Use or generate a compress.bat or anything like that, use the command “ff_iw –k NAME_OF_THE_EDITED_SOURCEFILE NAME_OF_THE_NEW_GENERATED_FF-FILE 9” in it and run the bat-file. Don't forget the value 9 for best compression!

5th step:
Don’t forget the last step, add the additional IW-header to the new ff-file…

Hints:

In front of the files you will find the length of the file. 4 byte in little endian (reverse order). It often makes ripping of the files easier when you use the length.

I have an idea! Is there a possibility that you can plug an external device to do hacks? All of our methods have involved something to do with software but have we thought about hardware mods? Geohotz first unlocked the iPhone by taking it apart and messing with it so what can we do to the PS3?

This is definitely outside the BOX ie: the ps3 being the box.

Ok Unkn0wn said think outside the box... RIGHT. The only thing we can use outside the ps3 = box are the USB ports, so we need to find something USB wise that we can use to hack MW2, like put a program on the USB and install, almost like the a JIG File...

Unkn0wn thanked your post, so I'm going to assume that your ideology of the PS3 being the "box" and us having to think outside of it is correct, which is what I thought but wasn't 100% sure. In past PMs Unkn0wn told me he made is own program. So... Now the trick is figuring out what steps his program takes and then do it manually.

The post above mine sounds like a possibility, but outside my field of knowledge. But there is no way I am modding my PS3's hardware, way to risky and I'm strapped for cash.

Has anybody looked at the files you get from doing the back-up funtion? I will tomorrow I haven't heard of anybody doing it.

I think what he did has to do with an INFECTUS exploit.

Well, my thing is, if he would tell us how to get the file off the PS3, then we could figure out the rest.
