(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This is Cod4, but this works with MW2, Cod5 too! But you need HDD Decryption with FW under 3.30

1st step:
IW added an additional file header to the ff-files (12-bytes: 49 57 66 66 75 31 30 30 05 00 00 00) and you need to remove it first before you can decompress the file.

You must login or register to view this content.

2nd step:

After removing the header, your file should begin with 78, the header for Zlib with max./best compression. Store the file (don’t overwrite your sourcefiles, always create backupfiles first) in the folder where the ff_iw.exe is located. Open or create the decompress.bat or anything like that, use the command “ff_iw –d NAME_OF_THE_FF-SOURCEFILE NAME_OF_THE_NEW_GENERATED_FILE” in it and run the bat-file.

3rd step:
Now you will find a decompressed file in your folder. You can open this file with the Hex-Editor and do with it whatever you want. You can rip content, edit content or just check the files included for an overview.

You must login or register to view this content.

4th step:
When you’ve edited the content and want to test something you only need to compress the file again. Use or generate a compress.bat or anything like that, use the command “ff_iw –k NAME_OF_THE_EDITED_SOURCEFILE NAME_OF_THE_NEW_GENERATED_FF-FILE 9” in it and run the bat-file. Don't forget the value 9 for best compression!

You must login or register to view this content.

5th step:
Don’t forget the last step, add the additional IW-header to the new ff-file…

Hints:

In front of the files you will find the length of the file. 4 byte in little endian (reverse order). It often makes ripping of the files easier when you use the length.

It cant be through Mpdata or split screen as they have modified all CoD's to get challenges.
There must be another method like tricking the ps3 to download game settings from a pc

Hdd method

I wish people would listen, it is nothing to do with PKG EDITING! Decrypting the HDD was never proven not to work, people just kept getting black screens when they tried to go online because they didn't properly compress their edited patch.

Why the HDD method is the only logical method?

  • PKG's are signed by Sony and can therefore not be edited without finding out their encryption key which is effectively a 1 in a billion chance.
  • MPDATA editing will not allow you run mods like TheUnkn0wn's little bird because it is effectively the equivalent of editing your GPAD0_MP from COD4.
  • Code Injection is just a fancy word for writing directly to the HDD. He is 'injecting' his modified version of the patch straight onto the HDD.

The Hard Drive contains the patch_mp.ff, that same patch_mp.ff is edited in the Xbox 360 modding scene to provide the exact same mods that Hunter & TheUnkn0wn are producing, its so obvious its unbelievable. Want to know the closest person to getting this working from NGU? Brendan because he is 100% correct in the way he is going about it, through getting the patch decompressed and compressed correctly which is certainly not easy.

I've been lucky enough to speak to Hunter myself and have indeed been told exactly how he done it. He decrypted the HDD > Decompressed the patch > Edited it > Compressed it > Re-encrypted it using the reverse decryption method > Replaced the original patch. If you don't believe me, thats fine but i'm 99% sure that editing a PKG, MPDATA etc will lead you no where.

True, but the fast files are also found inside of the PKG, and yes they are signed by Sony, but maybe there is another method to get them on, like maybe the backup exploit where you could add files, and yes i know that was patched, maybe thats why you need two Ps3's.
But if Hunter decrypted the HDD the FF would still be in the PKG file right?, or is it unpacked when you decrypt?

At least I can fight
TheUnk0wn did say that it was fairly easy and what Gizmo-95 just said proves it. The correct methollagy is there, it's just that we don't have the tools or maybe the know how to get there. Anyway, it's just a matter of time before somebody find it and releases it, or, Sony or IW will find a way to patch it (it they havn't already)

Wutz n MW2?
There is way too much contradictory information in this thread.

First, the method is NOT easy OR difficult. It's time consuming.

Also, no, you can't modify the .PKG file. As stated in a previous post it's signed with a SCE DevNet header. The .PKG is an equivalent of a .rar or.7zip file for home computers. It's a compressed file. The trick we need is to modify the file once it's decompressed on the HDD.

Think of it this way.

When you start up a game with a patch. It downloads first, then installs correct?
The PS3 is downloading the .pkg, then installs it by decompressing it.

The way to modify lobbies is to gain access to the GameOS partition from OtherOS, or decompress the PS3 HDD and successfully modify the files. The .PKG just checks the integrity of the files within, once it's decompressed from .PKG all we have to worry about is the IW headers, which are shown here in the pictures. Simple.
