The Geohot exploit seems to be the most appealing one to this especially with the ability to load scripts.

Here is a TuT however it's copied:

Tested on Yellow Dog Linux 6.2 (developer install) but should work on any linux distribution. (Yellow Dog Linux 6.2 DVD link: You must login or register to view this content.)

Required before before to start this tutorial:

1) Have a working internet connection (to download exploit and kernel source).
2) Have at least 60MB of hard disk free for /boot/ (required to install new kernel).
3) Have at least 1GB of hard disk free for /usr/src/ (required for kernel source build).
4) Have done the PS3 hardware with a push button connected to a PIC/FPGA... to send a pulse of 40ns on the Memory Bus Controller. (else the exploit will run infinitely and lockup everything until hard reset).

Step1 building the kernel and booting on it:

1) Launch a shell and logon as root user using "su -" (required later to install kernel ...)
2) Download Linux Kernel 2.6.25(linux-2.6.25.tar.bz2) and the exploit in /usr/src/
3) Extract kernel and exploit in /usr/src/
4) Change directory to kernel directory source and use PS3 default config for kernel.
5) Build the kernel.
6) Install the kernel in /boot/
7) Install the kernel modules (required to build the exploit).
Add new kernel config to kboot config using 720p fullscreen mode (/boot/etc/kboot.conf).
9) Reboot on newly built kernel 2.6.25 (type reboot in shell)
When kboot: appear click on keyboard "Tab" until you see kernel 2.6.25 and click on enter.
If X server cannot be launched click on cancel or NO, in any case use shell with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and logon as root.

Step2 building and launching the exploit:

1) Change directory to Exploit directory and Build it (write make).
2) Run the exploit.
3) When "PRESS THE BUTTON IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS" appear push button connected to a PIC/FPGA... to send a pulse of 40ns on the Memory Bus Controller.

First off, you have to go into the control panel on your P.C., double-click on folder options, then click on view, and all the way at the bottom of the addvanced settings there is an option called "use simple file sharing" uncheck it and click apply and ok. This will enable you to share files between your PS3 and your PC!

Next thing you need to do is create a file on your PC (whatever you want, GAMES, PS3, anything) than right-click that folder and go into properties. From here, go into sharing and click 'share this folder' then click on permissions and click "full control". Make sure you apply all settings before exiting.

Ok now boot up that old PS3 Swiss Army Knife for step #2. Choose option 3 (Windows Share), and put in your IP address. You can get your IP address by simply going into control panel again, go into "network connections" dubble click on "local area connections" and then on support, and all your IP information will be right there.

Now it will ask you for a folder name.. put in the folder that you enabeled for sharing (duh). Then it will ask for user name (your Windows user name) and your Windows password. Now all you have to do is label the game or movie your backing up (ie. littlebigplanet.iso).

Hit enter and it will start! Now you can go to your PC and check on the progress of your transfer. Games take up to 2 hours for 6-7 gigs. I hope this tutorial helps out.


SAK seems very possible , I mean you can backup the patch to your PC then edit then use proxy to get it back to your Ps3.

I agree , I could not do it since my FW is 3.41

I would try this as soon as possible if I had old firmware. No matter what the risk to my PS3 is (Lol I can just take it back to the store and tell them it's busted & under warranty and they'll replace it, worked for my friend when he ****ed something up and got RSoD)
