Won't work unless you have a Dev PS3. PSJB allows us to run thing like unsigned patches. Normal patches are signed by Sony therefore you will get an error.

so for example if I installed a modded pkg with godly mods patch already in it, I would get an error when installing?

Exactly all Sony patches are signed. You could still try I'm not 100% sure.
