(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ok, first off the requirement for this is that you have two PS3's. One on 3.41 and the other with 3.42

I did this earlier today and was amazed it actually worked and was so easy. I was able to get a hacked MW2 patch on my 3.42 PS3 and use the hacks online without a hitch.

Credit goes to shiver for giving me the idea. The original posting can be found You must login or register to view this content..

1. On the 3.41 PS3, jailbreak it and install a hacked MW2 patch (tutorial You must login or register to view this content.). You might also need to confirm the hacks working when you are NOT jailbreaked. Meaning you start the PS3 like normal and the patch hacks still work (just test it in splitscreen).

2. On the 3.42 console, do a full backup of your HDD with the PS3 backup feature. Unless you don't care about all the contents on this PS3 being wiped clean and lost forever.

3. Follow this guide for doing a Data Transfer between two PS3's
    https://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/transferutility.html

That's it! Basically with the PS3 data transfer feature, you can effectively transfer over EVERYTHING from your 3.41 PS3 to your 3.42 PS3. Including hacked patches! It also transferred over my FTP server and the backup manager... although those don't work without jailbreaking. :p

Whats the advantage to this? Well, instead of doing the MW2 patch hack and updating the PS3 FW which may forever prevent you from enjoying jailbreaking hacks ever again, this also allows you to install new hacked patches when they release. Otherwise if you do it the insane way (updating) you are stuck with godlymodz forever! Not to mention when IW releases the next patch, you would be SOOL. Doing it this way lets you stay on 3.42 while keeping a open line to your hacked PS3 and hacked patches.

Downside to this is that the PS3 which receives the data (the 3.42 one) has it's HDD re-formatted, so all the previous data will be lost. If you do a full backup, you can restore all your stuff later if you want to. And since you will restore to the same PS3, everything gets restored just like it was before.

Also note that the PS3 data transfer instruction manual (which is linked above) says you need both PS3's to have the same firmware. Surprisingly this doesn't matter if the PS3 you are transferring from has a lower FW than the one you are transferring to. The only time you need both to have the current/same FW is when you want to transfer data from the 3.42 PS3 to the 3.41 PS3.

So 3.41 -> 3.42 :y:
And 3.42 -> 3.41 :n:

I'm sure Sony will fix this soon, since this not only makes having hacked patches on MW2 real easy, but this also would open up the door for future hacks on the 3.41 PS3 to a online 3.42+ FW PS3. Since the DT utility copies over everything, hacked files and all.

Anywho, sorry if this is already common knowledge, but I was quite pleased to see that it worked without a hitch! I have been messing with the Godlymodz hacks all night on my 3.42 PS3. Smile

P.S. Please try and keep this premium only. The less exposure this gets, the less chances Sony will fix it right away. I'm sure many others have already figured this out, but still...

P.P.S Just so you are all aware, I currently am NOT hosting any lobbies. So don't ask. I have already restored the backup on my 3.42 PS3, so no hosting lobbies for me (unless I do the DT again).

now all we need is some 1 who makes a backup from his HDD including the modded patch. So how big would be a backup from a PS3 HDD that has only the PS3 data on it? If we could get this then all you need is backing up your original HDD data and then backing up with the the modded patch. Is it even possible to copy the backup datas and upload them somewhere?

You can't tranfer a back-up of one ps3 to another, the back-ups are ps3 specific, you can only data transfer from one ps3 to another. These are two different features found in the XMB. ie "Date transfer utility" and "Back up utility"

Also to Nolzad0 for giving me a NO thanks on this thread... seriously WTF? I post this thread to help people gets hacks on MW2 easier, why the hell would you -rep me for that? I took the time to write this thread in a neat legible manner with plenty of details... and you give me a no thanks.

It's people like you who make other people hesitant about helping or giving advice to those on this forum.

We talked about this stuff a few days ago in another thread.

You must login or register to view this content.

But yes, you are correct it works.

Backups are console specific. You cannot use the backup feature of ps3 to restore it to a new ps3.

Yeah, that post is what gave me the idea to try it. But when you said "There is still a little work to make it do so" I figured this would involve some methods of modding stuff and hacking that I am unable to do. But that wasn't the case at all. The only work involved is backing up my 3.42 PS3 in case I wanted to restore it later. Smile

The rest of the process was beyond easy. So thanks again for the idea! I will include those postings in the OP for credit purposes. I would have done that when I made the thread, but I totally forgot which thread this was originally talked about in.

I'm fairly confident this is a very similar process to the way Unkn0wn/Hunter did it.

Just follow these directions... it's about as easy as it gets.

If you need a video for that, then you probably shouldn't try doing PS3 hacks of any kind. :p
