To Mod it do you mean edit the patch?

You cannot edit patches on the ps3, you must decompress it and edit it on your computer, then recompress it and put it back on your ps3.

You do but you replace it with the modded one via FTP server and FileZilla.

I think that is ok too. Worst case scenario you just put the regular patch back on by using the FTP server, but if you can do that then you can just put the modded patch on normally.

My conclusion: you will be fine and you can put the modded patch on normally.
