Hacking on Playstation 3

Update: I just left a security meeting with the coders here at Infinity Ward where we discussed a lot of solutions. I feel good about the meeting, but of course I can't go into detail on the possible solutions we discussed as we don't want to give out any information that could potentially hinder the security any further.

Once I have more information, I will post it here.

The key factor I want you to know is, that while any update takes time, we are looking to make the process as quick as possible and nothing is being left unattended.

Our main focus right now is on:

1) Preventing hackers from affecting legitimate players.
2) Addressing users who have already been affected.

Original Post:

Sony has recently acknowledged a breach in security on the PS3 which has resulted in the hardware and its games to become exposed to exploits and hacks. Modern Warfare 2 is no exception to this security exploit and we understand that some of you have experienced problems with stats and other issues associated with this.

Report Inappropriate Players to Sony

Games rely on the security of the encryption on the platforms they're played on, therefore; updates to the game through patches will not resolve this problem completely, unless the security exploit itself is resolved on the platform. However, that doesn't mean we're not going to look into every option available to us. Regretfully, Call of Duty games are receiving the bulk of the hacker's attention, due to its high player counts and popularity. However, the number of legitimate players severely outweighs the bad apples.

If you are concerned about playing with players who are hacking, I encourage you to play exclusively with friends by utilizing the party or private match options in Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty 4 to avoid such players as much as possible until this issue is resolved by Sony.

At this time, we do not have the ability to restore or adjust individual stats.

Let me assure you, while we are very reliant on Sony updating their firmware and security to address the core problem of this issue. We are looking at EVERY option available to us to help any user affected.

This only applies to legacy games such as Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2. In the future we plan to adjust our approach to not rely solely on platform security and reduce the ability for this to happen in our games, as has already been displayed by the work Treyarch has done on Call of Duty: Black Ops to prevent similar measures.

Just force host into a game, and play normally without any hacks, because your host and you control the menu.

Simple.

i believe that IW is acually stupid because if sony starts to bann people there is no point of sony fixing this problem there will be some one else that will figure out how to get through the ps3 security no matter what they do. they would also half to fix there hardware to fix this problem in plus what is this BS look at xbox 360 they dont do shit about the hacks and jtags on there so why fix the problem on ps3 there i think that IW is stupid once again.SONY should be paying george hotz thats the truth and so should apple.he figured out alot of stuff on ps3/iphone.

if you can remember, all staff of IW was fired, and they said nothing about fixing it, they blamed it all on sony's security, so why would they fix it after saying that

I don't know where you got your information but Infinity Ward is still alive and supposedly working on the next Call of Duty. You must login or register to view this content. If the studio would have been shut down I doubt a rumour about them working on the next COD would be published in the LA Times.

And again if you look at the source of the Opening Post you would find a direct response from Infinity Ward PR guy: Robert Bowling AKA : FourZeroTwo.
