well a while ago i had the same idea on how to do this

so there is a program called Hamachi and it links pc's together as lan so i thought that what you could do is plug your ps3 into your pc through Ethernet on both ends then bridge the connections from your ps3 to hamachi at both ends then phone up the person lol to say when to do the data transfer.
i haven't tried this before as my internet is a bit slow so if anyone else could test it out and tell me tht would be great.
