Warning, may contain spoilers.

Here in Britain in the latest edition of the magazine PCZONE ‘Britain’s best PC gaming mag’ is a ‘world exclusive’ on MW2, with Mr Mohawk on the cover.

At £5.99 I never buy it-6 quid for a magazine, robbing buggers. :-(

But as its MW2 I did this time.

The main article text is mostly about the game and the snow level that we have seen, but there is some other items that have not been mentioned here, and *may* not have been mentioned in other mags MW2 articles. My comments are in [ ]’s.

The article describes the Rio level, thus:

“… Back to the interactive action then, this time in Brazil (Rio De Janeiro to be precise) where the Task force are hot on the trail of an arms dealer by the name of Faust. A trail that turns bloody when a bullet from one of Faust’s men kills the driver of the task force vehicle tailing him.

With the car’s interior decked out in glass and glistening droplets of blood your character leaps out and chases the hoodlum through colourful and crowded streets.

That’s right; non-scripted civilians have finally entered Call of Duty, their role seemingly being to run run around while screaming, and occasionally to be clipped by passing gunfire [nice :-)]. One non-lethal takedown later 9a shot to the leg) and the miscreant is stongly encouraged to give up the shanty town location of his diabolical leader.

I haven’t seen the game play that follows, but I’ve been on a fly-past of where the action takes places – and its beautiful. It’s an up hill fight and a down hill escape through the said favela with the backdrop of Rio’s famous Christ Redeemer statue towering above, and presumably disapproving of what he’s watching.

Here multiple paths will lead you through armed locals and petrified bystanders to a confrontation with Faust at the top of the shantytown-with enemies dashing over roof tops, popping out of side streets and more fruit, bricks and random furniture to blast past than has been previously been imaginable. It’ll be good in single player, but you can’t help but think that when it appears as a multiplayer map it’ll be an utter marvel.”

So much for the Rio part, for those of you who want a snow covered Russian forest with drifting white cold mist; you’ll be getting a snow covered Russian forest with drifting white cold mist, thus:

“Bring a passport

Elsewhere on planet Modern Warfare 2 I’m shown a snowy Russian pine forest with distant cable cars crossing the valley and beautifully rendered churned up mud on the roads. Here, I’m told, enemy APCs will storm over a nearby ridge and slide down the icy incline – firing as they slip and forcing you into the woods with shell-rocked snow falling from the trees around you. Beyond this, a snowdrift-packed village emerges beyond the misty forrest, and beyond that again a full-on military installation – complete with tanks, submarines and various combat paraphernalia. [looks like this could be one of the big online maps-sounds good, lots of misty medium range fire fights :-)] This combined with the forays into Afghanistan, proves the Modern Warfare 2 will be a truly globe-trotting action adventure. [sounds like as I mentioned a while back, a sort of CoD come James Bond sp game]

That’s the main article bits. There are a few other titbits scattered off the main article that are informative and what 402 hasn’t mentioned, these may or may not be in online play, thus:

“Weapon extras
Weapons will come with a lot more attachments, so the weapons you pick up from enemies will be a lot more varied in their capabilities.”

“Giving great head
The guy in charge of the designing the character’s heads previously did Final Fantasy character models. Watch out for tint on sunglasses, or the flashes of light reflecting off goggles.” [the snow scene on Shooter?????????]

“Realistic pineapples
Grenades will now have proper physics attached to them, and will now do exciting things like roll down stairs” [that sounds like fun :-)]

“Call the RSPCA
Will there be dogs? “Absolutely. We’re gonna kill some mother****ing dogs!” says Robert Bowling.” [oh dear looks like IW has copied W@W and doggies are going to be called up, and *might* be in online play]

“ More gun fun
Levels in Modern Warfare 2 will be longer then CoD4’s, so the game might have a longer play time.
Although the dev’s won’t confirm this.”

“Catherine wheels
The most impressive piece of destruction shown off by Infinity Ward was a humble petrol pump.
When ignited the petrol nozzle starts flying around in loops, propelled by the flames being thrown out its end, and promises to set fire to anyone who comes into contact with its unholy fire-fight. Woohoo.” [sounds like a variation of the W@W flame thrower, should be fun in online play if its included]

“Portable MGs
There are sections withlaser-guided auto turrets that you can carry around, much in the fashion of Half-Life 2 and Portal. [??????]
Their barrels make hissing noise when they cool down.”

There will be a co-op mode, and destructible walls as in the main text it says, thus:
“…I watch the Infinity Ward two some [402 and Vincent Zampella] play a co-op missin in Modern Warfare 2’s Special Ops mode [IW may have taken a leaf out of BF, as they have a SF section of the game]. As Robert places an explosive charge on a dank wall, and they both charge, co-op style, through the flying rubble, accompanied by a beautiful slow-motion Russian soldier cartwheeling away…”

As we know Afghanistan is a feature in the sp game, this is a brief description of what we can expect, thus:

“Embracing the bush doctrine
Modern Warfare 2 ditches fake countries. World keeps turning
Whereas Call of Duty 4 was coy about the fictitious Middle Eastern country its soldiers ran around in, modern Warfare 2 makes no bones about the fact that some of it is set in Afghanistan. t’s a beautiful level too, at first a barren wasteland - then a forward-facing rappel down a cliff with an utterly beautiful blue river snaking through the vally below. Beyond this is a network of caves (reminiscent of Iron Man) [never seen Iron Man so I wouldn’t know] await alongside evildoers to rout.

“We always try to be respectful with the things going on, and it’s not a conscious decision to go to some place more realistic – it fits the story” says studio head Zampella. “With Afghanistan, it’s a vast area [big online maps???????], and there’s any number of things going on. There are forces there doing operations, but they’re not as well known, or publicised. So the fiction is more believable.”

AND to finish off, here is some official authentic IW info on the online aspect of MW2, thus:

“You’ve got a promotion
“We’re obviously building on the success we had with the last game”, claimes Infinity Ward studio head Vincent Zampella, “there’s a lot of new stuff” [woooo :-)]. As for exactly what, he won’t be drawn on. It’s promised that the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer wont simply be a set of new maps, but those excited at having snowmobiles in deathmatches should calm down – that’s not happening.

The only other shard of information I could get from Zampella was that the grenade martyrdom achievement you can unlock in COD4, that I hate so dearly, isn’t leaving. [shit :-<] “But that’s great! I loved that,” counters Zampella when I moan at him. It’s definitely in then.”

No mention of Captain Price or the various weapons IW have designed and coded. No mention of a beta, and no mention of any more info being released, but the FN 2000 is definitely in it from a picture in a tunnel below the castle.

All in all it looks like a sick game, and something to look forward to.

martyrdom is there 2 balance last stand and dogs would be nice because they are helpful but it doesnt say they are in multiplayer just that u will kill dogs in singleplayer so wait till the come out with what will happen and stop speculating.

Who’s Jim Erased?
I still refuse to believe that 7 kill streaks will give you dogs in multiplayer. I think 402 meant in single player, like in CoD4.

And I thought someone confirmed in another thread that snowmobiles will be in multiplayer? cos this article says otherwise.
