and to answer your question yes you can block the infection but you would need a JB ps3 so you can get a patch to block the infections

and unfortunately there won't be any patches soon to stop infections

so i would give up on MW2 (im guessing you played it for quick scoping like alot of people)

It'll be harder because more people will need to host {CH} Patch and this can only be done by modders with 2 ps3's. But Im pretty sure there are better patches out there now that people would like to use not just {CH}
