It probably has nothing to do with the menu , i think it's because your NAT type is on strict or your friends NAT type is on strict ,
you can search on youtube how to fix this.

Some things you need to check :
- is anti-join off ?
- is YOUR Nat type open ?

Btw : if you enable force host then you can't join your friends , but friends can join u.
