They wont reset the leaderboards and they wont delete the hackers. First off, imagine the amount of lawsuits that would be opened against IW, they would have to prove with full evidence that the person they deleted had hacked, and just by saying 'look at the numbers' doesn't justify it.
Plus, Robert Bowling from IW said Sony aren't willing to ban gamers who glitch or hack unless it's by using packet injection - again, there is no proof they have hacked, the gamesave data is stored locally so unless they seize over 800 PS3's, good luck.
Also, who would be the person to decide who has hacked and who hasn't....would you say boosting is a form of hacking (manipulating the game to your advantage)? If so, now you have an even harder task of sorting through the 'legit-looking ones' to remove them. Get one wrong and they'll be in the shit.
It won't happen, it just wont. They could do a leaderboard reset but what about the other 4 million players who have actually played and ranked up legit, would you really want to go back to 0 on score, wins, losses etc. plus if they keep your rank, the leaderboards would screw up as rank is determined by XP which is determined by score...it would be a mathematical cluster****.
Just my two cents worth.
1.) They might not wipe the leaderboards, but they might alter it some. The lawsuits? Really? You think a hacker is going to publically expose themselves as being one by giving a lawsuit? Unless all they do is hack pointless leaderboards to a game, being a known hacker in public doesn't do well for you, especially if you're applying for jobs. Then again, IT jobs are the only place that might accept them, because they know you're talented. Another thing is, you really think the hacker will afford a lawyer that is BETTER then the teams of lawyers that would represent IW? If IW can literally screw over an entire community and essentially say "F You" to them (the PC players), that means they're big when they can snub a signifant portion of their playerbase and still make huge profits selling their product. In short, they can pretty much do anything they want, and get away with it.
2.) Boosting isn't hacking. You're using the system they provided to use. I've boosted a couple times on my secondary account in COD4, which is my primary for MW2 atm. Anyways, they provided a means to do so, therefore it might be "exploiting", but they never did anything against it, and I've never heard of any mass bannings for boosting. Then again, I don't pay much attention to bannings. If you get banned, you deserved it. I think the main point here is they want to get rid of the portions of the leaderboards where rankless people and their stats have turned the first few hundred (possibly thousand by now) spots of the leaderboards into an EFFED-up version of the Matrix.
3.) Again, IW will do what they wish. And I see it going two ways. They do nothing, or they get rid of those obvious hacked spots. Doing nothing seems more feasible, because time and time again, IW has proven (to me at least) that they don't give a crap about their responsibility of their product to their loyal customers, which btw, IW doesn't deserve most of them. -on a side note to clarify, this might be the last IW game I ever buy...but this recent patch (1.05) is actually pretty good.
good post though man. not attacking you, I just like playing devils advocate and showing the other side of the coin.
