The reason you might lag is because you're on a European connection and the hosts might be American or from some other place other than the UK.

IW isn't in control of the server or picking this option. that comes from Activison. ATVI doesn't want to have dedicated severs because the cost involved is too great. So they choose a peer to peer network.

The P2P network chooses one player to host the game and everyone else connects to that user through Daemonware server. Daemonware is owned by ATVI. it comes down to the cost of doing business. ATVI can get away with P2P and it costs them a lot less money.

you can do things to improve your connection... higher download and upload speeds from your ISP, put your PS3 in the DMZ and forward all the ports. two resources to check:

yep activision is almost as bad as microsoft with the red rings. they both found something that would work but not work great and then pushed them onto the market and after millions of people sink money into there pockets they turn there backs

I agree with your thought about dedicated host servers, but the gaming companies are too cheap to even consider that idea, so they go with player hosts, which is quite stupid .
There should be some sort of matchmaker where it pairs you with players from your country, not from the other side of the world :l
