(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); What do you guess the age rating for Modern warfare 3 will be?? They never release the rating until the game itself is out.
Which is annoying if like me, you are only 17 and you wanted to go midnight launch to get it yourself but couldn't because you didn't know the age rating and parents didn't want to take you :p luckily im 18 in october

This thread will go through the previous COD titles with a brief explanation of what I fell gave the games their ratings.
Also with my prediction on Modern Warfare 3's rating.

COD4 was a 16 (17+ in US), seems like so long ago that game came out. Its not bloody or lots bad language, just the fact its a modern army game, i guess thats why they made it aimed at 16. Since this was the first main game in the series, there is not much to compare it with.
The story was not set in exact locations, not known by people that have encountered terrorist acts. There was nothing bad in the story line that would have upset the public causing a high rating

World At War, I myself saw this being advertised as 15 on the internet, but when I went to pre-order it from HMV they said it was an 18 No
It ended up being rated as a 15 which I was generally suprised at since this was the first Call of Duty to involve limbs flying off bodies. I thought compared to COD4 this was a far more bloody game and thought it would get a higher rating. But i guess at this time the rating organizations were being more open and allowing more at younger age groups.

Also with World At War was the graphical videos at the beginning of every mission, showing real life footage from the war. I believe you are warned about this and have the option not to display it. I personally would have thought, with graphical material being in the game, even with the option would still have lead to s higher rating that a 15

Now the picture above is what us in the UK saw for a long long time, no exact rating being released right up until launch night. I was going to pre-order it, but then decided to go to the midnight launch with my step dad, only when we got there did we see it was an 18. But what was behind this rating?? There was no blood and gore to a visible extend, but I guess the story line, and the one mission "No Russian" played a major part in the rating received. So I guess now days its not just the visible conent that acts towards how a game will be rated, but comparing mw2 to COD4 there was little difference apart form the story line.
The spec ops is the only major difference between them, but even that had nothing worth an 18 rating.

Many parents aren't to bothered with their children playing games that are too old for them. But many parents, including mine, didn't want their children to take place in a civilian killing mission. So I guess the content played a major part when judging the mw2 ages rating

With black ops being made by treyarch, you would have guessed it was going to follow the same gameplay, with the limbs flying around. BUT they did tone it down and left the bloody body parts to the campaign. The trailer itself showed blood and guts as people were blown up. So I was guessing, compared to mw2, it would receive a high rating. The story line itself didnt contain much material which required an adult rating, but the gameplay did.

Now onto the upcoming Modern Warfare 3. We know it will follow the story line of Mw2, modern world war, which has caused a bit of worries to it being banned in the UK down to some london scenes. Could the fact its very modern and taking place in world known locations put the rating up to an 18??
I think that with mw3, the gameplay itself will be similar to COD4 and Mw2 as in quite clean, not tonnes of bad language, no high levels of blood and gore.
The story line however could I believe will push the rating up.

What do you think?? Will Modern Warfare 3 be an 18+ game?? Were the other games rated accordingly??

I took a lot of time making this, so please leave comments Smile

MW2 was only an 18 because of no Russian, it even says in this BBFC article:

Also Black Ops was only an 18 because of some slow motion moments in which you see the bullet go in slow motion and alot of blood come out, again this is proved by the BBFC:

Cod 4 was fine as a 16+ there was nothing wrong with it.

WaW on the other hand should be an 18, think of the 1st scene, it is a torture scene and is very violent, also think of the bayonet charges!
And there is zombies, think of der riese there are tons of bad language (more than black ops zombies) and lost of violence.

I dont think MW3 should be an 18 by bbfc, there is never much violence in the modern warfare series. But as for PEGI they have rated all CODS except cod 4 an 18, but PEGI are way to harsh.

Thanks for the post and I hope mine helps you too Smile
