ya i kinda figured. what if you were to have a blu ray dvd burner. could you download the torrent and then copy to a blu ray disc then play on the ps3?

I think yes you can but only you can use it on jail broken ps3 but you cant use it on non jail broken ps3 cuz every game have like a signature which readed on your ps3 so you cant just download it and play it
The only way to play games with non JB ps3 by buying the game
