Post: Improve your SKills/Strategies/Gameplay

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); When you die (or go on a spree of deaths) ask yourself why you died, how could have you played the situation smarter? If your team has map control and you lose it, go to theater and see how you guys died. However most people do not know what to look for - they usually do not understand the metagame enough to help themselves.

Make the game easy for yourself. You watch pro streams and most of their kills are incredibly easy, they more often clean up kills than get in one on one fights. On Sanc, if you see two teammates on the other team's green gun/hut, and you spawn on flag, then go to their car. This initiates a flank. Chances are, the enemy is going to converge on their hut side of the map to kill your teammates, giving YOU easy access to car side and getting many good shots on people who are not looking at you. The more you shoot someone that's not looking at you, the better. One on ones should only really happen if you get stuck in a situation; for instance you and an enemy player are both ring two is a situation where you most likely have to take the 1v1.

That being said, Halo is a game of flanks. Although there are thousands of different situations that should all be played differently, a good rule of thumb is to look for flanks. This is the basis of good positioning. Look for holes in the team's setup/positions. Using the same example from before, if you see that nobody on the other team is watching car (your teammates are doing a good job distracting), that's definitely the place you should be going. On the Pit, you see they're all spawning needles? Go training side of the map, or better yet, go to their S2. S2 is a special spot indeed, probably one of the best power positions in Reach; but it's often overlooked because it's hard to get to. S2 is the ultimate flank, the lines of sight, the cover, the amount of help your able to get from your teammates - it's beautiful.

But what if the situation is different? There are absolutely no roles on a team. No main slayer, objective player, leader - it's all out the window. What do you do? You help your teammates. You don't slay, pull flag; you help your teammates, that is what the main goal is. If you help your teammates, the other team will die, this will win games; if it's an objective game, this let's you grab the flag and what not. Helping teammates -> Dead enemy team -> Good. That said, and using the previous example, what if your teammates are very weak, calling for help. Instead of going to their car, go to your car and start putting shots. However it is imperative you don't leave any holes in your setup. If you stay on your car or go to their green gun, then you're leaving their car side of the map open, and their most likely going to spawn rocks next, so you MUST keep in mind of all this. After you slay the enemies trying to kill your teammates, you'll be in position to go back to ring and control their car side, giving you easy shots on the new spawners. YOU going to car gives your team pretty much the perfect setup. If you are on car, and a teammate is on green gun, and they are all spawning rocks, they can't escape. They would be getting shot in two different directions with limited cover. If you stayed on your car or went to their green gun this would have not happened.

That's as far as positioning as I will go, it's by no means all of what I have going through my head, it's just the basics - get it down.

For your shot, there's little you can do to make it better. Natural talent, repetition, and practice pretty much make up your shot. Your main goal is to refine it, smooth your shot out. Make it so it's not jerky. The best snipers, the most inconsistent snipers all have VERY smooth shots. Look at Roy, Formal, Snipedown, you see them noscope and they never jerk the reticule. Other players like Ninja and Dersky have gotten pretty good at swiping the reticule, but they don't acquire the same consistency of the before mentioned. Now with nobloom the shooting style of the DMR has completely changed. Instead of jerking the reticule with bloom (you had enough between shots to swipe it), you now have to follow the enemy's strafe, making you have not jerk your reticule before, but have it smooth. This stark contrast in shooting styles is going to make or break a lot of people, all you can do it adapt.
