Yes; i tried this when 1.08 got released. You can´t install the 1.07 patch with this method.
Then i just realizied that i have 1.07 on my other hdd, so i even didn´t need my other PS3 for data transfer.

I asked myself if i should start a thread for it but it´s very simple; almost everyone has this idea.
