(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may have been the best-selling title of last year, but sometimes the first month of sales don't tell the whole story.

According to the January 2012's NPD figures, Modern Warfare 3 was able to sell a total of 386,000 during the month, fueled by a commercial with three celebrities and zero gameplay footage. To another series that would be great, but Call of Duty is held to a different standard. Call of Duty: Black Ops sold 750,000 units during the month of January last year, meaning that it nearly doubled the sales of Modern Warfare 3.

The question is: is this a sign of Modern Warfare 3 having shorter legs than its predecessors? Battlefield 3 put up a strong fight with sales totaling over 10 million, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive just around the corner ready for an AWP headshot. While the competition is is greater than previous years, it sounds like more than anything that Call of Duty fatigue is beginning to set-in.

Have you been playing since the original CoD for the PC? If not you can't make a statement like that.

Oh, when Robert Bowlhead said it, then its must be true. COD is no longer a game for hardcores. Activision and IW are on the noobs' side.
How can You say, "...if someone died 5 times he clearly deserves a deathstreak" .... Hmmm, no he doesn't for **** sake. He deserves to be raped if he can't play.
I'm sick of those idiots with portable radars and akimbo FMGs. Yes. We used to love COD, i mean, we have only 4 games which we play 24h a day, and all of them are IW games. But this one let us down, its clear that it is developed for casual gamers, a 'noob friendly'. We are veterans, and we never had portable uav's or akimbo shit to practice skill and aim. Putting this into game will push HC gamers off. Yes, IW says overall played online hours are telling something different. They are still huge, as more noobs play it. I use noob word as someone who isn't really good at FPS, as i don't know which word should i use instead of noob, sorry. No wonder COD sales are not so good, HC players spam all forums about this game being no good aynmore. Rant over. Thanks.

Pretty much this. If you are on a deathstreak you are just terrible and should invest in another hobby. The learning curve for CoD is incredibly easy especially when compared to a shooter like Unreal Tournament. There is no excuse for people dying 10 to 15 times for one kill and having deathstreaks certainly won't help them get better. There will always be noobs, who will suck regardless of any help they get and giving them a crutch like deathstreaks will only divide the community.

Honestly at this point the death of CoD could possibly the best thing that can happen to gaming as it done nothing but completely stunted the growth of the FPS genre. The same game is literally re-released every year with a full $60 price tag and somehow manages to break sales record. Any shooter that doesn't have CoD in its title gets shunned and thus its competitors just try to copy the formula.

It's time for the devs to seriously re-evaluate the franchise before things start looking even more grim. But given Activision's track record this probably won't happen as Treyarch probably wouldn't want to have the same fallout as the original IW did. Even if they did I'm sure the franchise would just get whored out to some other worthless interns who will spam ctrl c and ctrl v.

Its people who take the game to seriously.
With every game comes flaws, especially when there is such a big fan base. You can't make everyone happy, and they figured there were more new people then old, so they decided to help out the newer people with death streaks and support streaks rather than benefit the older fan boys with nothing but boring kill streaks.
Once again, you can't make everyone happy, so they decided to make the larger amount of people happy, which was the people who may be newer to the series.

I was thinking this to. Since so many people bought it in novemeber and between nov-dec, maybe that is why the purchases were not as great in Jan due to high sales during holiday season

It broke the record for most release date sales once again.
How is it dying?
Less people bought it in January because they already got it, because more people wanted it badly enough that they got it between November-December.

You can't say you loved a game forever if you started playing a game after it has already released 3 main games and expansions. That's a ludicrous statement.

Except they have compromised the overall quality of the game by catering to these new players. Sure they will make a quick buck now but by doing so they have polluted the community. By ignoring the players who built the community they are essentially forfeiting any long time survivability of CoD. The noobs have brought the game after how many years? They will be the first to jump ship onto the next big thing.

fact is I hate the mainstream things like death streaks / support etc.. However

As a company there job is to make as much money as possible which means providing to the mainstream

1. They want to cater to the average person who is busy work/friends/girlfriend etc.. The average person only has 1 or 2 hours to play a day.
2. They realized due to this they won't be that good so how do they make them want to play they give them easy killstreak's example death streaks + support kill streaks.
3. Let's face it when you do terrible at a game you don't want to play the better you do the more odds are you want to play.
