Activision's yearly Call of Duty game will apparently be a sequel to 2010's blockbuster title Call of Duty: Black Ops. Amazon France reportedly posted a product page yesterday for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 which was then promptly taken down, but not before news outlets took notice.

French site GameBlog first reported the leak, which has since been pulled. While Activision didn't confirm Black Ops 2, GameBlog updated the original story with a report that Activision France contacted the site and demanded the news be taken down. GameBlog refused to do so resulting in Activision "blacklisting" the site from all things Activision, including pulling planned advertising campaigns scheduled to run on the site, uninviting the site from a preview event for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and refusing to send them early copies of games to review.

Although it was technically "leaked", this is hardly a surprise. Activision saw a number of sales records broken by Black Ops in route to becoming the best-selling game of all time on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in the United States and Europe, while raking in $1 billion in revenues in less than two months on sale. The game also recently won "Best video game ending of all time" in a poll held by the Guinness World Records.

Given Black Ops success, it's only natural that Activision would return to the Cold War-era in 2012's Call of Duty title, especially with Treyarch up to the plate in the yearly developer trade-off with Infinity Ward.

This isn't the first we've heard of Call of Duty: Black Ops being 2012's title either. In January, Fusible noted that the domain name "blackops2.com" was acquired by Activision.
Activision has yet to respond to the Black Ops 2 rumors, but we'll be sure to keep you updated when they do.

ppl are already hyped for the next CoD?

Damn.... it's only the fourth month of mw3, still got 8 to go. relax, and play mw3, or if you're bored of it, get another game.

Worry about the next CoD in like the summer/early fall, where there will probably be more info on it.

The following 2 users say thank you to Luffy* for this useful post:

Well if you stumbled across the next COD on Amazon by accident I think you would be a little hyped to at least show others?

Treyarch should just dominate and bring out a zombie franchise. If they do it right I would never need another game again ever. **** graphics.
