Quite honestly, bounces don't need a strafe to work. You can even just jump from a standing spot without running to get the bounce to work. The strafe just allows you to jump a bit further than normal, using the momentum from turning, giving you an extra boost in distance, not height. The only thing that matters in a bounce is the height from which you jumped from, giving you an equal bounce in distance and height in return...and most importantly, making sure you hit the bounce in the right spot to begin with. As far as the Airfield bounce goes, you are aiming at the area where the wall bends just above where the wall meets the ground, and since the wall is in the way, it boosts you up and over the wall rather than forward like the bounce should normally work...just climb on the top of the crates, sprint and jump to the spot. Clear that up for ya???
