more people are playing mw2 and black ops but some people still play waw

The reason why more people play MW2 and BO is because they are newer.
The range for which this game is sold in gets bigger as the news of how good or bad the game is. Back in the W@W days, noone really played these types of games. I know back in COD4 days there were a very small amount of people playing it.

But as we go along more people will join and play.
