For example I was capturing and my brother went on facebook but nothing ever showed up in the firesheep side bar. Can anyone please help me with this issue.

Im not too familiar with firesheep, so i cant help you there. But i recommend you use a keylogger, or even better, a R.A.T
With the keylogger, you get EVERY SINGLE THING he types. If you have access to his computer, or can convince him to download a file, you can get your keylogger on his computer. If you have any questions, or want me to help you out with a keylogger, send me a message! =D
