I'm gonna be pretty honest with you. You know how Linux is so damn safe? Cause the kernel is compiled so that memory addresses cannot effect other memory addresses. I.E. kernel doesn't allow memhacking by design.

Now OSX runs BSD, which like its cousin Linux, is a Unix variant (no mem hack = leftover from Unix). Now, if Apple somehow messed with the kernel to allow memory editing in a running program, I would be shocked. It's a key safety feature. That's not to say that they couldn't/wouldn't. Or if you hacked the kernel yourself to allow it. I'd just find it very unlikely.

Even if a program attempted, it'd have to be a rootkit to do it. If it wasn't, then kernel would bitchslap the program or even go into kernel panic depending on how aggressive it is.

tl;dr - VERY UNLIKELY EVER, but not completely impossible.
