Alright so I decided to get a rack server since they seem the cheapest. Right now I just have a 1.3ghz 1gb ram laptop running. Here are the specs for the one I want to get:
4-Core 2.66 GHz -- Intel Core2 Quad Q8400 (4MB Cache, 1333 FSB)
4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 SDRAM, Dual-Channel Speed w/Double Bandwidth
Chassis w/Slim CD-ROM Drive (1 x HDD Bay, 2 x Front USB)
2.0 TB 7,200-rpm - SATA 3Gb/s - BLACK Edition - 1.2M hours MTBF
64bit with Debian
This would cost $847 exactly. I want to run minecraft with lots of people, a few websites, an ssh server, and make this my home server. SHould I get this? Can someone recommend me something better?
EDIT: How would I install debian on this? I can see anything..
Another edit: I might also have access to many computers of the same type (not like these rack servers, but like old computers that are all the same) because my school is getting new ones so I might be able to buy like 10 for maybe 0-$200. So could I connect these computers and have like one that uses the processing power of all the other ones? I can store this in my garage..
