(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Recently , my Dell Inspiron Laptop received the following error after about 10seconds after booting up: The Following file has been damaged or missing: C:WINDOWS>System32>Config>SYSTEM

It says the only way around that is to use the repair option from the Windows XP Disc.
I even tried doing all the Safe mode options and the last line is the System Part
The problem with that is that whenever I go through with the Disc and choose the 'R' repair option, it asks:

1. C:Windows
Which device would you like to repair( Press enter to cancel)?

I enter 1 ^. Then after about 10seconds, all it does is bring up a list of commands to use , and none of the commands have anything to do with repairing my problem as I tried every single one of them.

  • The solution I could think of is to just do a wipe and Start New from the XP Disc , but I don't want to lose ALL my files ( Photoshop, P90X Videos, GB GFX, etc.)

  • Another solution I was thinking is by Creating a New PArtition, but I don't know how to boot up from a different partition and Use That* one.

  • And my final solution is to buy a USB HDD device that I could use to put on my Windows7 Laptop.

With all of that said, what is my best option? stare

I fixed mine by booting and immediatly press ALT and F11 and kept pressing it. This will allow you to restore to factory settings. try that and if not re-instal from the disc Winky Winky

After I followed the instructions from the reply above yours, it still didn't work. So I messed around with the boot sequence by swapping Internal HDD with Diskette or w/e, and now it wont even show up on my external screen anymore. Here's my video of the problem: btw, the LCD light burned out in the laptop so thats why it displays lines and im not paying to get it fixed.

Edit PArt 2:
Here's me trying the ALT+F11

Okay so I saw that your computer rejected the ALT F11. This happened to me because when my registry was corrupted I couldnt enter any safe mode AT ALL. My one way that I managed to do this was:

1) Download Ubuntu from the official site free. You must login or register to view this content.

2) Use the USB extractor to extract the ISO to your USB. You can find the download here You must login or register to view this content.

3) Now youll have all these files on your USB.

4) Boot and press F2 and switch the Boot order to boot from the USB. ( I dont have XP so not completly sure which is USB )

5) When you boot from the USB into Ubuntu Install it to the hard drive, and make sure you press "Run Alongside windows" ( This will mean you'll have two operating systems and have the choice at boot to pick which OS to boot into. )

6) Now go back to the boot order and change it to boot from the HDD again.

7) Boot now and it should go to a purple screen with writing to pick which partition or OS's you want to boot into.

Cool Man (aka Tustin) You should see a "Windows Recovery" partition so boot into that.

9) This will allow you to completly wipe the disk and download windows xp back onto it.

Thats how I Fixed mine but I have windows 7.

So there will be no chance that I will beable to recover my files ?
And thanks for the help by the way

And here's what else happens now:
After I turn it on and frantically scroll through the F# buttons, it seems as if there is a screen with options, because when I press enter, something happens and the vertical lines change. But sad to say, I don't know what the screen looks like since it wont let me view from my external screen anymore. I was able to view thru it by pressing FN+F8
