C'mon really the only difference from AMD and Intel is the hyperthreading. His processor with a good graphics card would play fairly high spec games (such as Crysis 2) on decent settings. I think whether it's AMD or Intel, or nVidia or ATI/AMD, just comes down to a matter of opinion. AMD processors are a little more affordable than the Intels though. I've got an AMD Athlon x4 645 3.1GHz with a nVidia Geforce GTX 460 and I can play Crysis 2 1080p highest settings at around 50FPS. Not getting this 300GB hard drive, unless he is actually meaning a 300GB SSD.
Also you forgot how much better intel's architecture is.
Sad thing is your CPU is the bottleneck, I feel bad for that 460
