just go to google and type the following:

Torrents alone aren't illegal. Torrents of files that are illegal to distribute are illegal. And no, don't assume there is less chance of a virus. Always scan any files you download.

I used to download a lot of torrent but i stopped when they started cracking down on this, knowing my luck i'll get caught, do you not get a warning first?

Yeah i used to download quite a bit, but cracking down on illegal downloading got me thinking and i stopped but miss watching the movies..

The UK's privacy laws are shit now and they can pretty much monitor whatever the hell they want. Just for that reason alone I'd never willingly move to the UK. But to answer your question, you're probably more at risk in the UK than if you were doing it in the US.
